Foo - Are You Now Have Ever Been FORCED To Watch Football?

As if you couldn't guess, I don't like football, particularly the Superbowl.

While in high school, I was a member of the band so I had to sit in the stands at every game, freeze my arse off (the band director didn't want us to cover up our uniforms with warm coats), and support the football team with my musical talents. So apart from the small amount of time I spent making music, I didn't like watching football games much. I don't watch football today.

So, Foosters, here's the topic: Are you or have you ever been forced to watch football? If you have, please discuss. I've given my thoughts. I welcome yours.

Oh, that's been my experience in life as well. Although our BD did allow us to wear coats in the stands :o .

We sometimes had to go watch football in gym class, instead of doing powerfit, [weights, running, no sports just exercise.] I always brought a ipod and my friends brought ipods, phones and laptops.

No one forces me to do anything. I am the opposite of you, I enjoy football. I used to play, I miss it, and its the only team sport I like.

When you're in the high school band you don't have much choice. Either you didn't get to play an instrument all year, or you put up with being in the marching band.

At any rate, I don't watch American football.

I've never been forced to watch, but I've been around friends when they would turn the television on and watch a game. I would always either fall asleep or try to find something to entertain myself. I don't have a problem with anyone wanting to watch any sort of sport, it's just that it bores me and I would rather be doing many other things. Like plucking my eyelashes out of my head.

I have, sort of. If you mean on tv, then yes. I was lucky enough to spend a few months in the county lock-up during the season, so of course that's all that is on the tv. I myself have never, ever, been a fan of american football.

Been there, done that. As far as watching a game, I'm watching tonight's between spending time on BF's, sending emails, etc. I'll catch a cowboy's game if I'm at my parent's and my dad is watching or if I'm relaxing after a ride on a Sunday afternoon and there's nothing else on.

Not forced but...My wife loves watching the game but I can't stand it. I can't stand to watch any sports on tv short of the occasional bike race. My wife and son are upstairs right now watching the Superbowl while my daughter and I are downstairs watching nickelodeon.

hehe, I never watched it when I was a kid - that was Dad's TV - him and his drinking some cheap cream ale and eating potato sticks from a can (nasty little burnt hard things, ick).

And then I got involved and married this all round sports kinda person who was from a family of 5 boys and one (poor) girl and it was a sports freakin FIESTA out there.

Baseball, hockey and OMG - FOOOOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!! Live and breathe fooootball - and then have all the girlfriends and eventual sisters in laws there with these 5 wild men in a living room watching football with their equally enthusiastic father and uncles???

I learned to like it myself - and still do - but boy a couple of my ex-sister-in-laws hated it - hated the "manly gathering", how they didn't have control over their men at that moment, etc etc etc.

Hey, I actually liked it! And never stopped liking it since then either. However, sitting in a kitchen with 5 totally unhappy women was just, ugh, awful. And let's just say - they did NOT like the fact that I started spending more ... and more time in the TV room with the boys watching football and not out in the kitchen commiserating about how nasty that sport is .... :D

Ya..I didn't do band :)...of all the crowds I didn't fit in with, band was the least likely for me to hang out with. I was a jock, geek, welding, chess playing, computer nerd...but I didn't do band

<looks left & right quick ...> Band person here, clarinet - hated the tight fitting uniform, the ugly spats and that 10 lb infernal fugly stovepipe kinda 2 foot white thing perched on my head? Butt fuggin fugly. The only reason I was in that thing was that I had a crush on this guy who played a sax. I played an oboe and was in a couple of classical wind ensembles ... but NoooOOOooO I had a crush on this guy in the marching band who played a sax. Grrr, snert. Oh yeah, and I saw him 10 years later after graduating (oh yeah and I also joined the local Explorer's club cause he was in it) and I told him I had a crush on him and he looked at me, blinked and said he never knew.

Ya know ... I did everything but stand up in traffic and rip my clothes off and call his name.

I wanted to take welding. Couldn't :( . I was a girl, and it would have hurt my ability to reproduce :mad: .

Many years later, still no children, and I didn't ever get the chance to make my own nifty poker :p .

Oh I sucked at it, I didn't have the patience. Its more art than skill ironically. Really good welders have a pure talent (imo)

When I was a kid, my parents forced me to watch the Niners. It was pretty awful. Now that I'm a parent, I am continuing the cycle of abuse.

I was the head photographer for my high school newspaper and yearbook. I went to three football games per week, on average, during the season. I actually enjoy watching the game, but three games per week is a bit much.

All American males are expected to speak football whether or not they like it.

I don't normally watch games, but I follow what is going on enough to be able to participate in conversations. I watch an occasional game and did see the super bowl.

Kevin Boss is a local boy, so people were very excited that he even made it to the NFL, let alone that he'd go to the Super Bowl during his rookie year and pull off a big play that contributed to a huge upset.

I fail to understand how you were "FORCED" to watch football.

Were your "FORCED" to join the band? Did they "FORCE" you to watch the game?

My parents 'forced' me to join band. Since they controlled my living quarters etc. at the time, there was not much I could do to say no. There was no getting out of marching band if you were in 'band'. Marching band went to football games. Band members were expected to remain as a cohesive unit in the stands when not actually marching.

I wasn't "forced" to join the band. But if I wanted to play music, the band was the only option.

I myself preferred the game to marching band music. But if I wanted to do the concert music, I had to put up with marching band. And we went to the games. period.

My parents 'forced' me to join band. Since they controlled my living quarters etc. at the time, there was not much I could do to say no. There was no getting out of marching band if you were in 'band'. Marching band went to football games. Band members were expected to remain as a cohesive unit in the stands when not actually marching.
