Hi SoCal BF peoples,

I figured if VeloNews (http://beta.velonews.com/index.html) can do it, so can we. ;)

I would like some candid feedback on the basic look and feel of our new web site (http://www.lightningvelo.org/test2.html). We are still pulling together some graphics and photos to jazz up the site a bit more, but this is the structure that we thinks works well.

The main purpose of the web site is to attract new members and provide some basic information to current members. We provide more information to members through our Yahoo! Groups site.

BTW, candid <> cruel. ;)

TIA.

Hi Cleave
I think it looks nice.

The Velogram Newsletter link at http://www.lightningvelo.org/about/ is broken

I think the ride start directions should be accompanied with the maps.google link, perhaps use this one
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2900+N+Studebaker+Rd,+Long+Beach,+CA+90815,+USA&ie=UTF8&ll=33.810817,-118.099079&spn=0.033661,0.067892&z=14&iwloc=addr&om=0 (I kind of guessed on where it is. In any case, with the map there, anyone can zoom, pan, get directions, whatever.

Love the look, Cleave, as it reflects your team's colors nicely! :)

The thing that sticks out at me immediately is the sublimation of elements. Namely, the viewer's eye has to go somewhere first as a focal point. When there are so many elements of similar sizes on a page, the viewer's eye wanders around, not sure what item to look at first.

Design wise, I think I would put the photo front and center with a welcome (a picture paints a thousand words!). The rest of the elements could be smaller/less visually intrusive or accessible through links.

As a viewer, I'm also not fond of a lot of scrolls on one page. I'd rather see information available on one page to make it easier to read at a glance. But that may just be me... I'm lazy that way. ;)

Overall, looks great and a big improvement on the old site!

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I've acted on some of it but not all as I am not the designer. Primarily, I have content control, but at the same time content can have an affect on the design.

FWIW, the old site was a disaster because it was designed and modified by at least a half dozen people after its initial development. It was also built using one web app and then modified using others.

Anyway, we'll be going live with it this week.
