Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I lost weight...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In my wallet at least...:D
I used to ride mountain bikes before college, nothing serious, just for fun, but I sold my bike when I needed money. Through college I've grown increasingly out of shape, and now I'm working a lot and still not getting exercise. Currently I'm 6'3" ~260lbs, and needed to do something. I figured I would try to get back into bikes since a couple of co-workers ride and would have some encouragement.
Went to the LBS to just "look", and was considering a hybrid or another hard tail mtb, but ended up with an 07' Specialized Allez Elite. :D So off I go with my first road bike... Rode some today, and I can't believe how fast and responsive the bike is, completely different than anything I've ridden. Now I need to build up my rear end and or try another saddle:p

Maybe both ;)
Congrats on the new bike!
Also: I see you're from Fort Worth -- my home town!

Yeah, it was 80* degrees today and I got the itch:p I need to get some shorts which should help a lot and build up with some short rides over the next few days... I can't wait to get to the point when this clyde can stomp my feather weight co-workers:D
Nice first bike - welcome!!

Welcome to the crew. I love how "just going to look" always turns into walking out of the store with something. I went to REI yesterday to "just look" at some trail running shoes and walked out of the store with a pair on my feet. How does that always happen?
Got any pix of the new bike?

So far my butt is still the only thing holding me back. I already ordered a pair of bibs, but its really just going to take a few rides to build up to the seat time. I'm hoping to get down to ~220, by the end of the year and would like to attempt the hotter than hell century this fall:beer:
I've lurked around the forum for awhile, and enjoy the positive attitude in the clyde section...Thanks for the welcome!

Take it easy untill you get more seat time.
I am at 220 lbs, 456 miles this year to date. It took me about 400 miles to get used to the seat.
I try to move around on the seat some while riding. Helps big time..
I tried my mountain bike today and it gave me the sore butt. Jumped back on the road bike and it was fine.

Congrats on the purchase! Too cold for me still, too. Of course, I'm only home on weekends lately, and th weather is conveniently cold during those times. *sigh*

Believe it or not, I am on my way home from San Antonio right now (stuck in the ATL airport . . . again). It was HOT when I left -- very muggy. I could use some of that right about now at home.
