From the IBOB mailing list...
"Sheldon's wife Harriet sent out mail this morning saying that Sheldon Brown died of a massive heart attack last night."

RIP Captain Bike. You'll be missed.

Bad news indeed. Cycling is a lot less rich with the loss of a guy like Sheldon. If anyone hears about any memorial charities for remembrance donations, please post it.

That must be incredibly sad for his wife and the cycling community will miss his input.

I am thinking of doing a massive archive / dump of his site so that if somewhere down the road his site goes down his contributions could be re-hosted as they were very helpful to so many of us.

I cant imagine that Harris Cyclery would ever let that webpage come down.

Good point, although does anyone know if Harris Cyclery deals with http://www.sheldonbrown.com/ as well? I know there are links between the two.

Sheldon's website is what got me into FG/SS and ultimately back into cycling altogether. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who can say that.

Sheldon hosted (and administered?) the Harris Cyclery page http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/index.html

You most certainly arent. I got into fixed gear to improve my road riding as per suggested by Mr Brown.

Wow. This sucks. That guy was single handedly responsible for my bikes not falling apart. Sheldon was the man and he was probably the biggest contributor of basic bike knowledge in recent history. Lets all put in a few miles for sheldon today. Memorial rides anyone?

Oh my god, such a huge loss to the cycling community; my sincere condolences to his family.

If I my make a suggestion, could someone from BF contact his family and find out if there is anything members here can do, such as future support and updates for his website?

This is one way his great work can be continued...

That's really unfortunate. I hope that Mr. Brown's work continues to be available, because it has been incredibly encouraging and inspirational to my own bicycle-related work in the past few years. No one can expect to live on forever, but a good piece of writing can last nearly that long.

Very sad. How many times have I been puzzled over a repair and thought "What would Sheldon do?". The cycling world has been fortunate to have enjoyed his overwhelming enthusiasm, his eagerness to educate, and his iconoclastic insistence on doing things your own way. All The Best to his family.

He got me off of an ill-fitting, poorly working 10-speed and onto bicycles that fit me well and worked. Plus, he contributed a bunch of good advice to this forum.

That dude loved to ride.
