Hey Gang.
Anyone know more details about this crit? I was thinking of doing it since it's near by.
Thanks.

what's to know, same course as the tues/thurs night training ride. cool because you can see the whole course as there is nothing built in the middle yet...

Hmm CBR, didn't even know they existed. Can this race still count towards USCF upgrade points?

yes, they are a separate governing body but the have a reciprocity agreement so your points/starts will count.
course is simple and relatively smooth and three of the turns are not that tight. turn four is the tightest the others are more of just arcs. might be a couple of bots dots but i can't remember

Dots for sure coming out of turn 2, and I think turn 3. Open and flat course, sometimes windy.

Not sure yet, I may go do the 4's and the 30+ 3/4's.

Hi,
The Hughes course has dots out of every corner (I think), but they only get in my way coming out of turns 1 and 4 with turn 1 being the worst. It's funny that I can't be sure about it because I can't count how many times I've raced there and I also trained there for a bit in the 1980s.
BTW, the course is dead flat -- frying pan flat -- get it? ;) :D

I'll be there along with some teammates. Most of them are doing Cat 4 and 35+, but I'll only be doing Cat 4 since I'm not old enough for masters.
This was my favorite course as a junior 12 years ago (back then it was the Long Beach Criterium Series, and also the NDF Criterium). Flat and fast with very wide, smooth roads and wide corners with a long stretch to the finish.

Me and 4 or 5 teammates will be there. Doing the cat 4 and the 40+ 4/5. We need to convince Vance to do the cat 5. Get his criterium feet wet.

Ha! Beat ya to it. +1 on getting Vance to try it. This is probably one of the safest criterium courses around!

I just checked out the course on Google Maps and you can actually see a peloton of riders on it. Pretty Cool!

I did so many laps on that course in the 90s.

Hi,
Very cool. Definitely shot during a race as you can see the barriers at turn 4 (and the port-a-potties) and the cones on West Carson.

I'm not racing this weekend, but it's going to be the first time out on the road on my bike in four weeks. If I'm able to go long enough and hard enough (M.E. doesn't frequent this thread, does she?) without too much pain in the shoulder then I'll sign up for Anger Management.
Although...
If Saturday feels great and I don't have any rides lined up I may try Millikan on Sunday, but it's not that likely.

Good luck with your ride. Welcome back (hopefully).

Don't rush it. If I've learned one thing in all my years of riding and racing, it is to not rush back into things after being sick or injured. The desire to get back out there and train and/or race is there, which is good. Just remember there will be plenty of races this year. Especially industrial park criteriums.

There's a Masters 30+ 3/4, if you're over 30 I recommend it.

I don't recall those being much of a problem. Then again, most of the races I did there were as a junior, in a pack of 15-25 riders. I think I only did 2 or 3 in the adult categories, and never made it to the sprint finish. Once I got caught up behind a crash. The guy slid into the curb and pinned me in, but I avoided going down with him. Too bad because the official said I didn't get a lap because I didn't go down.

The rules say that you must put a foot down to be given a free lap, so if your ever caught behind a crash, clip out and get the free lap like everyone else.
