Has anyone heard anything about a memorial for Sheldon? It seems there are a lot of people who are willing to give a little for a guy who gave a lot. It would be great if we could get things focused. One possiblity may be creating a fund for Bikes Not Bombs (http://www.bikesnotbombs.org/). Just an idea...

That's a great idea a nice web site with a good cause; maybe if there were a way to make a donation and join in Shedon's name perhaps the bikes they donate could have a sheldon badge?

Im sure the Harris Cyclery site will mention something when it is ready.

Im sure they will. His site gets tons of hits, which helps their online sales.

The site will stay up for the foreseeable future, but cyclists will exist longer still. The site should definitely be mirrored somewhere. That would be a first step. A linked-PDF version of it should be disseminated (perhaps via torrent) as a second step.
Finally, and I might be daydreaming here, it would be a good idea if a maintainer is selected from the community, who will maintain the pages (or that PDF) as an open document - similarly to many open-source projects. That way, everyone CAN contribute if they have something, and the site/file can stay up-to-date with the new technologies.
Of course, maybe this could be done by keeping the original intact and never modify it, and add (kind of like an appendix) a new site/file which will only contain the newer stuff.

Just a few ideas. I'll be copying the site locally when the traffic decreases (perhaps in a couple weeks from now).

Even outside of whatever the family eventually decides, joining in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's (http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=HOM_EVENTS_ms_bike_ride) rides this fall seems like something that'd be fitting to do in his memory.

i've been doing these for the past two years and they're really well supported. the philly-to-jersey shore (city to shore) one is very fixed friendly as well. i wholeheartedly recommend.

Most definitely. While Sheldon has meant a lot for cyclists everywhere, we should keep in mind that this was even more a personal loss for his family and that is something that should be completely respected. I'm sure when the time is right they will be happy to receive the cycling community's support for whatever they decide should come next in Sheldon's name.

that's a good idea. adding new info to the site would be sort of like someone else finishing elliott smith's album-in-progress: it might be good, but it's just not the same.

keep the original intact. continue the work seperately, though in the same vein. progress is good. preservation is good. balance it out.

Yes, that's definitely a fun time. Committing to do so might be a good idea for those looking for an additional way to honor Mr. Brown.

The ride is incredibly supported, with food, free drinks, snacks, sag wagons, free bike maintenence, etc. There's even lunch options for vegans (everything from fruit to pb+j to vegan black bean burgers). I'll be doing it again this year, this time w/ my girlfriend (both fixed).

I wonder if the local cycling club will cycle in his funeral procession either on their own bikes or on his many two wheeled steeds.. I'd hope that when I go somebody will ride along with my hearse and take a bike of mine to the grave so my spirit can have on last look and a ride among friends.

As much as I agree with preserving his site and his memory, I don't think I'd advocate ripping the content & re-hosting it, not yet. Harris and his family should have some say in that.

As far as donations, etc, I'm hoping that the Harris site will have something soon.

the thought of this and a funeral procession with a major bike population brought a tear to my eye with a simultaneous smile to my lips.
