In exchange for removing the cutouts? These hubs look like toys, they'll probably fly off the shelf at first.

I thought iro hubs were just rebranded formulas...but they don't look like formulas.

Just a different flange or totally different?

these appear to be Formula TH-32 hubs, which are cone/bearing hubs, rather than the sealed hubs (with the cutouts) we all know.

According to the IRO site they use stainless steel cartridge bearings.

another alternative for hubs...nice! i prefer cartridge bearings. the silver/pewter/black ones look kinda cool.

The gunmetal ones would look rad with an old set of Rigidas I have laying around. I might have to actually buy something new for once.

No, I think he is saying that white hubs will be "dingy gray" after street use.

no I don't think so those loose ball hubs don't have the beveled flange like the sealed bearing ones. I think they are the same as the normal formula hubs just without the cutouts and printing in place of the cutouts.

in other news, a group buy for already-inexpensive hubs?

They're 100 for the pair but I only really want to spend like 97 because I have 100 exactly and I want to buy a REDBULLLLLLLL!

energy!

Now people won't have to go out and spend too much money on phils they don't really need just to get that bling anno'd look!

I do really like the look of these hubs though, and Surlys have always been a good value for a street-use fixed hub.

unfortunately they still have axles long enough
to fit three sets of track ends (two if aluminum).

...or, perfect for pegs.

as observed elsewhere, people here think that they can "group buy" anything, apparently.

These are the same cheapskates that think knocking $10 off an already cheap part makes a group buy worthwhile.

since cloth and metal totally have the same absorptive qualities.

I remember ordering this hub style on accident, and sending them back. They didn't roll smooth at all when I got them, not at all like the sealed Formulas we're used to seeing.

Any idea on weight? Looks a tad portly.

it's a shame the printing on the side is so ugly

Definately over 300 grams for a rear hub. However, IRO sells fronts and rears individually, which at least frees you up from having to buy a pair. Put a hollow axle in the rear, use a front road hub, and thats probably about as light as your going to get for a fixed gear hubset.

So dismissing cost would these or they gran compes be better hubs?

How would one do such a thing? Where to procure the goods?

I'm not sure if you can buy a hollow bolt-on axle specifically for that hub. The Nashbar/Dimension/Bens/Novatach hub has a hollow bolt-on axle. Haven't we had this same discussion before?

I agree, but I bet you could hit it with a little acetone and it would wipe right off.

We touched on this issue before, yes. Track hubs are confusing and heavy. I hate them.

These hubs...
http://0184e3d.netsolstores.com/ProductImages/Hubsall_LRG.jpg
are not these hubs.
http://www.businesscycles.com/graphics/thub-formula_30-32c.jpg

IROs new hubs clearly seem to be DiaCompe made shells. And DiaCompe already sells their hubs in all those colors too.
Plus, in the past have customised these hub shells for shops by putting the shop's name on them.

Other than IRO, i can think of two different shops selling DiaCompe hubs with their shop name put on it by DiaCompe.
The reason for the axle install by IRO seems clear to me as well. DiaCompe only sells their hubs in 120mm and 110mm rear spacing. IRO wants to sell in a few others so they opted to install their own axles/spacers/bearings and just bought shells.
My educated guess on the matter.
