I just got a new Mag trainer this weekend.
I went with a mag trainer to be able to do high load low speed for leg strength.
Now my question does are there any recommendations for training videos where you set the trainer and then use the bike’s gears to get your cadence to build your heart rate?

Next question. My resting heart rate is about 68 my Max is about 180 however if I just look at the bike I am up in the 150 range this is in Carmichals Zone 5 but I am supposed to be spinning in Zone 2 which is about 120. How do I get my heart rate down there?

Are you saying that when you get on the trainer you bump up to 150 right away?

No but within 15 minutes of riding I'm that high.

Night Hawk I am not sure why... I am just a novice trainer, maybe Koffee or someone else with more knowledge will see this and help you out. I just find that very quick unless you are just hammering on down as soon as you get on it.. but maybe not..... sorry I cant help:(

I not an expert on this aspect of cadiac physiology but I'll throw in my half cent because It may not be worth a full 2 cents. Your heart rate goes up in relation to demand. A higher O2 demand will result in a higher HR. If you need to decrease your HR you'll need to decrease your demand. Try a spinnig a lower gear versus a higher gear and lower the resistence on your mag trainer.

I realize your HR goes up just by 'looking' at your trainer so you may need to ride with a super low resistence. I'm not familiar with Carmichals 'zones' so you may need to work up to them.
