BMX - New BMX suggestions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey I'm brand new to this forum, and I was considering buying a new BMX for use on street. I'm about 5'9, 160 and willing to spend anywhere from $200-300. I'm thinking about getting something lightweight for speed when I'm just using it to commute to work and stuff like that. Any suggestions, guys?

haha that one is amazing... but yeah the whole "$200-$300" thing would probably not work out so well

I don't know, the Trek Equionox's are pretty beefy.

Why would you want to commute on a BMX?

*twas refering to the post above.
I commute to work on a BMX everyday. Mind you, it's only 3km. But it's much more fun than my mountain bike. Plus, on lunch breaks I get to go out and play in the huge flat parking lot. That wouldn't be much fun on a mountain or road bike.
I could understand why most people wouldn't though

Yeah, exactly. I have to go like 10 blocks (I live downtown Seattle) to get to work. I do the same thing on lunch breaks sometimes if it's not raining.
But, yeah, still no suggestions? :|

well you may want to get into a bike that is 20.5 or 21 top tube. I will give you that. for a decent cheap commuter bike, look at the free agent bmx race bikes. That will fit your budget nicely.
