Apparently the guys from Competitive Cyclist were there also. What's New (http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=WHATS_NEW)
Confirmed as I posted here a while back http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=5943458#post5943458 .. About 30 team members have been staying in a hotel about 5 minutes from me. I've seen them riding several times in the Santa Monicas here.

That article from Competitive Cyclist was awesome!! It is a must read.

What is your point here,I just posted that i saw them, not that someone told be blah...
There seems to be a tendency here to reference things back to ones self rather than sharing information.
The comp.Cyclist article is good. Thanks for that.
I like this snip from that article:
We hate to start with an aside, but we must: The general area around Agoura Hills -- our understanding is that it basically straddles the Ventura/Los Angeles County line -- might possibly hold the best riding in America. In previous years we've logged big miles around Encinitas, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco, and we're fond of all those places. But none of them matches the mix of savage climbing, spectacular scenery, and lack of traffic we found around Agoura Hills.
Take that, Northern California.

As a resident of Agoura Hills, I say "Thank You!" (or maybe that should be "You're Welcome!")

Its one persons opinion. Ill take our shaded mountian roads any day. Just an fyi, last year when CSC was here riding they were training on some of the worst roads here. Why? I have no idea. Credit Agricole on the other hand were riding some of the best. Perhaps it was because CSC was staying in Gilroy for some odd reason.

All local pride aside, I'd agree that there is great riding almost everywhere. You can make an argument for long, smooth flats for speed, if you live in the Midwest, or wonderous climbs, for Colorado.
I completely enjoyed riding in your neck of the woods; excellent climbing, long sweeping downhills, it's all there.
Sheldon
Garlic is good for cyclist. Gilroy has the best garlic. The stuff from China does not compete with Gilroy's.
Great article. Although I found it funny that he could mention great physique in regards to a 6'1 man that weighs 130lbs.:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: I mean that sounds downright fragile.
Yes Sheldon your are right. There is great riding to be found all over the country. Its too bad we didnt have a summer tour here where they could venture into some really great areas, those that are currently covered in snow.
I assume with better weather upon us, that many more teams will be sighted. So far it has been quiet around here. The rain and wind prior to this week was not very rider friendly. Hopefully it hold out through the tour. If it gets cold and a storm comes in the route will have to be altered. Mt Hamilton has been closed alot this year.:(
"Pappa! Pappa! The Italians are coming! The Italians are coming!!!" ;)

News of pro teams coming to train in our area has been common knowledge for several months. Several abandoned the Solvang area for various reasons. In the Comp Cyc article, the writer (obviously pretty fit) talks about how tough it was to keep up with the pros. For us even more mortal riders, it would be downright impossible but lots of guys who ride around here think they have a shot at it. ("oh sure, I'll just hang on to the back of the team and cruise.")
Having watched the pro teams at the Tour de C, it's pretty clear that the gap between us and them is a light year!
Sheldon
If I were to ride with them it would look like I'm going backwards with the pros riding so fast. Then again... that's how it usually is anyway with the mere mortals I ride with up here in NorCal... Doh!
"Pappa! Pappa! The Italians are coming! The Italians are coming!!!" ;)
"Everybody cheats. I just didn't know." :p
Funny thing about the article: about a year ago I was on Agoura Road and caught up with a local rider. Riding along, a (guess what!) red Chevy pickup truck turn in front of us. A loser teenager redneck wanna-be hangs out and tells us both that we're ******s, and that our d*@#s are small, and laughed hysterically as the pickup peeled away with blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Wonder if it's the same guy / sorry excuse for a human being.
I grew up in Agoura, and while on a training ride (on Driver, near the high school) a pick-up truck sped by with the passenger hanging out far enough to slap my @$$ as it went by. I was lucky, as he also hit my elbow, but I managed to keep control of the bars. I wish I had gotten a better look at the guy's face or the truck, as they probably went to high school with me. Agoura tries to be rural when it's just on the edge of metropolitan life, so you get the yuppies and the hicks in one area.
I agree with them, though, that it's some of the best riding around. I will argue that there are more brutal climbs nearby, but Agoura offers varried choices (moderately flat to brutally hilly) with many miles without having to take many big streets.
this happens everywhere-in Colorado once a pickup pulled up alongside me and the guy on the passenger side pointed a shotgun at me--proceeded to shoot the speed limit sign ahead of me. He thought it was funny...scariest part of Agoura is soccer moms balancing starbucks in one hand and cell in the other in their Escalade while putting on a dvd for kids in the back
for you Topanga folks.. today around 10:30.
Saw the whole team rolling on Agoura Road near my office Tuesday. Very cool. Gave them a thumbs up and 'Allez'.

I just received this e-mail from a friend. Doesn't sound pretty.
btw - CSC had a crash on Decker. Sounds quite bad too. I was at Sundance this morning and the coach of the team was there speaking with Ashton about it. It sounded gruesome. Nicki Sorenson got a 14cm gash across his forehead and part of his nose came off. Sick! Jens Voigt was involved too, but it sounds like he's ok. The coach said that Jens wasn't going to be 100% for TdC but will be ok for the season.
Nicki Sørensen in Bad Crash During Training
[11.02 08:34] This Sunday Team CSC's Nicki Sørensen crashed in Malibu Mountains during the team training camp in California.
The Danish rider suffered a deep cut on the forehead as well as other cuts and bruises to the face. Nicki Sørensen is now recovering from surgery in the hospital in Thousand Oaks. He is expected to be able to travel back to Europe later in the week.

Well, at least Jens is okay - he's one of my favourite riders to watch! :D Bummer about Nicki. :(
