"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Don't disrespect Schleck, article from Competitive Cyclist

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Awesome article on Competitive Cyclists website about riding with the CSC boys.

You're gay Schleck.
Now what is he gonna do, ride his bike away from me at 30mph? I can handle that.

"Bjarne cruised up and down the group, time and time again. His van took up the entire oncoming lane, and as he leaned out the passenger window his head was only inches away from the bodies of his riders. What was he looking for? Was he trying to discern the slightest bit of labored breathing? A hiccup of unsuppleness in a cadence? The faint jiggle of a55 fat? It had to be unnerving for the riders -- he was a poker-faced meat inspector, and in no small part their race schedule for the next year hung in the balance."
That was a pretty cool article. Could you imagine seeing the "fat jackasses" faces if the 130 pounder would have caught up with them? It reminds me of something my brother told me once. There is only one thing worse than wearing spandex, that's having your ass kicked by someone wearing spandex. :D

If he would have caught them, I hope for his sake he would have kicked at least one of their asses. If not, that would have really sucked. The fat jackasses around here carry things under their seats. This is one reason I let them carry on with their "******" remarks when I pedal my spandex clad body by them.

Do not think a group ride of Cat 3's is anything like a pack of pros.
I think that is pretty clear. If only I could ride like that...

Correct. NFL Football is a friggin Kum Bay Ya Lovefest compared to pro cycling. Anybody that thinks cyclists are ******s hasn't been to a typical local amateur bicycle race which exudes enough excess testosterone to make Liberace straight again, posthumously.

Does this happen in Europe and other countries or it an American thing? I assume there are rednecks all over the world but are they as vocal as ours?

In Nyack the bike weenies outnumber the Rednecks 100:1.

We had an "incident" with some younger jackasses (around 18 - 20ish) a couple of weeks ago. First they wanted to see how close they could stay to my rear wheel, I would guess they were within six inches. Then they wanted to see how close they could stay beside me, again less than six inches. After that they yelled some choice words and let us know that we were #1 via sign language. At first we got ready to try to catch them. Then we realized that we had been riding bikes for three hours and were exhausted. What could we have done if we had caught them?
It was sort of nice riding by their parents house about 20 minutes later with them setting in their car in front of the house though. Should have saw the looks on their faces. :D

Certainly not in West Virginia. Switch the numbers around and you might be a little closer but still not quite there.

In my hometown the fat, jackass rednecks out number us cyclists 1000:1. Fortunately I know a lot of them.

Very cool article. The attitudes of American motorists will never cease to amaze me. Part of me almost wishes Schleck had been left to go after those idiots.

Here's a thought for those of you who feel comfortable using the word "******" or "gay" in a derogatory sense on the internet, and aren't concerned with the ethical issue it presents:
1) Our country is moving, slowly but surely, to making these words as reprehensible as other slang terms
2) Many internet pages will be searchable forever
In 10 years, when you are going for a job, local political office, or being googled, this usage will be bonded to your reputation.
You can cell me the "PC police" or pretend that you username is so much different from your name that this will never happen. But that won't mean a thing when search engines do "relationship matching" and employers can disqualify candidates based on their ethical choices.

easy on the PC police... The title is a direct quote from the article. It is by no means saying it is acceptable or ok to use. Assumptions are bad.

And where did the OP go off saying such derogatory terms directed at someone? Looks pretty clear that he was talking about an article and what happened when someone did so. Quit being so uptight.

Since I started this thread I will answer.....
1. The title is a direct quote from a retail sales establishments website.
2.My user name is my real name almost.
3.Employment.....That means work right? I am retired. My wife is my boss.
4.Thanks for looking out for my well being but there are plenty of people around here lately doing that for us.

If the OP had not been quoting the article he would have been requested to change the title. However, upon reading the original post and then reading the article it is pretty easy to figure out what the intent (or lack there of) of the original poster was.
It is pretty obvious that there was absolutely nothing negative intended by the original poster or the author of the article. If anything they were just pointing out the fact that there are ignorant people out there that just need a butt whoopin'.

Has anyone else here had a experience like the guy who wrote the article by sitting in with a pro group?
I would love to hear about it.
I have had the chance to ride with a bunch of Pro BMX racers back in the day and I have had the opportunity to play on go carts with a bunch of Nascar regulars but I would LOVE to be able to ride behind a group of true pro tour riders and just observe. Probably will not happen here in North Ohio :(

I rode with a couple of semi-pro's once. They were teaching a clinic that I attended. What I was more impressed with than anything was their bike handling skills. They had no problems touching handlebars, leaning on each other, etc. They were even messing around by hitting each others tires over, and over, and over. I would have been on my butt the first time I tried it.

So, I don't consider myself homophobic, but does it seem to anyone else that he's a little too fond of how Schleck is built? It sounds like his heart's aflutter...
Beyond that he is one of the purest specimens of athleticism we've ever seen. He's reportedly 6'1" and 130lbs, and when you sit on his wheel his silent, fluid spin is mesmerizing. His physique hypnotizes: No woman in LA older than 14 is as slender. In his grace and his delicate muscularity, it was like setting eyes on a ballerina. No, not a ballet dude, but an impossibly lithe, sinewy ballerina...

Pillar. You're supposed to grab the B pillar behind the front window.
Riding with a team of pro's is a humbling experience for sure. Very different feel than being in a pack or mixed pros or a race with pros.

That is all I will say. Don't want to get any other mods panties in a bunch.
