You can get one at your local bike shop, Performance bike, Colorado cyclist or most any other mail order bike shop.

Check out tri-zone they have them for $10, you can get one to adapt i tto use a 1 inch or 1 1/8" threadless stem.

I've heard some mixed reviews about the safety of the quill to threadless adaptor. Does anyone here have any opinions?

I have used one for quite a while on one bike, and used one on a bike I recently sold for a while. I can't see any reason why they would not be safe.
I would go with a 1" version, the reason behind my decision is that virtualy every stem out their can be converted to work with 1" but a 1" can't be converted to a 1 1/8". I know there are very few stems out there that are only 1" but you can get some good deals on them at times when you do find them .

Ok, I got my stem out (what a b*$#h) and on the side it reads 22.2 cm, so is it 1 inch fork?
is so, if I buy a 1 inch adapter, can I then buy any stem I like to put on my bike?

Thanks again Yes, your steerer tube is 1". You can get a 1" to 1" quill adapter and get a 1" ahead-stem.
BTW, other on-line merchants sell these adapters for much less than from the link you provided.

Thanks, I just ordered one, now one more question (sorry), what is the difference between a road and a mountain bike stem :confused:

Yes there is a difference between a road and MTB stem, atleast on average. Standard MTB stem has clamp size for the bar of 25.4mm while a road stem is 26mm sometimes 31.8 for oversized bars.

kev, you were half right. MTB stems are 25.4mm, or 1" exactly. however, roadbike handlebar makers are a bunch of clowns that are worse then shimano in making their stuff incompatible with other stuff. There is 25.8mm for TTT and ITM, 26.0 for deda, 31.8 for *some* OS, but I know there is a 31.7 out there ...its a mess, man.
