I used this free program yesterday to copy all of his web site. I have used this program a lot and t works well. Didn't want to risk losing all that information. Just be careful to set reasonable limits on options or you will get a large file. I set limits to 3 for mirroring depth and 0 for external depth.

Oh yeah....should do that. But I'm hoping it stays up indefinitely.

Gear calculator works for me. One thing, you open the web site from the folder you saved it to by clicking on the index file.

Good idea Mcanulty. I was thinking the same thing. That information must be preserved. It's my first resource whenever I need to know something or get curious. It's downloading as I type. Thanks for the programme link.

I have to wonder if it will be a self-fulfilling phrophesy ~ i.e. Sheldon's website going away ~ when every bike nut on the planet mirrors his site - wait until they get the bill for the bandwidth.

I downloaded it and it wouldn't work. However, bearing in mind the point made above about bandwidth, I'm not going to try again. I'd forgotten that someone has to pay, although for my site the cost of bandwidth is puny.

I am trying it at megaupload. Listed it as Sheldon Brown Web site.

I had the same idea too but after one abortive attempt with some choppy software I thought about the bandwidth and figured someone (everyone!) would be doing the same.

I would imagine the good folks at Harris Cyclery know the value of the resource and will continue to keep it aloft.

Regarding Megaupload -
I have NO idea how to make that site work...

You register for free then type the letters they post in a box, wait 0 sec and download it.

This is an old-fashioned idea but maybe someone close to the family could get the material published. I'd love to own a "hard copy".
