I had to take care of some personal business this morning so I cleared it with my boss to come into work late. After I got my business done I took advantage of this by stopping by one of my favorite MTB trails on my commute in. I got in about 30 min of single track riding and then finished my commute. Of course I rode my MTN bike today not my commuter. It was fun to ride a different bike in. with 40 psi in the tires and a suspension fork on the front it was a super plush ride.
I haven’t ridden these trails since I started commuting regularly. I could tell the difference in my power on a couple of technical hills. Sweet.

I’m going to have to figure out how to do this a couple of times a week.

Leave earlier! I am fortunate enough to be able to commute on my old MTB with an equally old Marzocchi Bomber Z2 on it and I do on dirt roads, but not singletrack.

I enjoy those times when I can get off the trail and do some single track. I could do it on the way to work, but it would be an incredible long way in. I do know there are people who ride the single tracks that cross my commute in the dark. Not sure I'm ready to go bombing through the woods on a single track with one head lamp already on for 45 min. Could be fun to try though.

My last job that I had a commute longer than 5 miles was a 14 mile haul that included some crushed limestone rails to trails, there were several deer paths off the trail and once a week I road the MTB just so I could hit those trails. A couple of them put me in some tawny backyards, but most just wound through the woods and got me back on the commute home. After 8 hours of doing nothing on third shift it was sort of nice to get out and do something.
