Classic & Vintage - Vintage Huffy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is there such a thing as vintage Huffy bikes? I have an old Huffy LeGrande that I want to drop carbon fiber forks onto as well as a couple other upgrades. First is the bike worth it? The bike is in great working condition, just not sure where to find dimensions. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Personally, I do not think it is worth the upgrade, but that is ultimately your decision. I recall the leGrande being a department store model with high-tensile steel frame and a one piece, Ashtabula crankset. In addition, I would be concerned about upsetting the handling, as I recall it having very slack angles and lots of rake, which is not common on the carbon forks that I have seen.
Mmmm....troll-y goodness!
However, if you're serious, my knee-jerk response is a simple "no." Still, if you really, really love the bike, anything is possible.

Huffys are not worth the cost of carbon forks and good luck getting a fork to fit it. You would probably need to also replace the head set with the threadless kind if they make one that will fit the frame. Between the fork and the head set you will have ten times the worth of the bike invested. On the other hand if the bike is rideable ride the heck out of it and make upgrades as or if you wear parts out. You may not like riding after a few hundred miles so you won't be money out. The carbon fork will not make the bike lighter and may make the handling on that particular bike scary. Get on the bike and ride and worry about upgrades later. When you come to the point you want to upgrade do it with a different bike. All this from a man who has a Huffy AeroWind in his collection. Roger
Thanks guys. I may end up donating this old thing after all. As i have my sights set on a 2004 GT I-drive 2.0 MTB.
Huffy does have a long history of bikes but most are low end and very few seem to be desireable or collectable. The last USA made Huffys were produced in 1999 and I do own one of these. They are much better than the new ones floating in from China.

I've had a few Huffy's pass through my hands. The only one that got my attention was a 1980, Huffy Concours "Professional". It would give a Raleigh Record or Schwinn Traveler of the same year a good run for the money, but certainly not anything considered mid-range or high end. I think I have pics if anyone is interested.
I think some of the Huffy "Sportsman" models from either the late fifties or early-mid 60's were rebadged Raleigh Sports.
Not really on the subject here, but probably needed saying.
