Fifty Plus (50+) - Why I love my wife - cycling related

Well, my wife has taken a beating on BF. See the infamous "Never say this to your wife" post. But today we were down at the charity run thrift store looking for more junk we don't need and I know why I still am in love with her.

Spotted an old Trek 420 outside and asked the clerk for a tape measure. Wife says what do you want that for? I reply, "what do you think?" Wife rolls eyes.

Pretty nice for a 1985 bike or so. 15 speed, downtube shifters and the drivetrain had not seen too much use. Totally rebuildable in my opinion. Alas it was too large a frame for me. Went back in to return the tape and reported the bike was too big.

Wife replys, "Why don't you get it for Ben(son) so he can have something to ride when he visits? You need a project anyway." I almost fainted on the spot. The guy that "knows" the price was not at the shop so the deal is in limbo.

Now if I can just get the same "you need a project anyway" response about a nice Look 585 frame!

My wife would never say "you need a project". She is more likely to say "when are you going to finish those projects". Still, I love her too.

And, thrift shop bike, sure....don't expect that generosity at the LBS, tho....:)

+1. Or, more often, "when are you going to finish project x that I assigned you three weeks ago?" Reminds me - I am supposed to hang a mirror in the basement bathroom and fix the bike stand in the garage. Maybe mannana (sp?).

Typical wife- Is not interested in what you may want- But If it has you doing something for one of the Kids- Then she is all for it. All you need is for Ben to tell mum that the bike is a bit large- so perhaps Dad could look out for something better. That 2 year old Look seems a good idea to me.

Yes, good wives are a precious and rare commodity (as are good
husbands I'm sure). Mine rode over 100 miles with me (in our pickup
truck) to shop for a recumbent for me. I've already got way too
many bikes (25+) and she really has no interest in bikes herself.
None the less, she rode all the way down and back and spent from
10 A.M. untill 4 P.M. milling about while I found just the right bike.

Gotta love a woman that will do that.

Yep. It's the one that's really messy. Bikes hanging from rafters, on the
walls, in the basement, in a shed. I kinda collect bikes, both oddities like
Alenax, or very pristine examples of common bikes such as Varsities. Some
Tandems, a Schwinn Town & Country, and on and on.....

I have remodeled my garage to accomodate our Conversion Van so many
of my bikes are currently scattered about the place. I'm hoping to build some
kind of shed on the cheap this Summer.

Oh, don't tell the wife but I'm looking for a SWB Recumbent and a DF Cruiser.
