Foo - Foo Cat Peeps: How about cat boogers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey this IS Foo, isn't it?

My kitty - prolly 9 months old now - ever since I've known him (4 months or so?) has always seemed to have had something there. And I'm not a picker so I just kind of look away, wanting them to go away. I grew up with cats and dogs and none of ours ever had this affliction.

When I took him in for shots and then go get neutered, I mentioned them (not many boogs that day of course) and the vet (I've taken all my animals to him for at least 20 years) kinda disregarded them as minor and that was that.

Well, he still has the boogery things - the other orange tabby (same age) has also had them all this time too, but not like how my guy's bigger nose has them now.

On line info is not real helpful ... probably have to go join a cat forum or two (yes I'm in a fishy betta forum where I'm probably securing advice from 12 yr olds), but just thought I'd run it past ya in case there's a cat person out there. Waiting to get paid so I'll probably call the vet on Monday, unless someone has some other boogery advice.

He's totally healthy (in fact he just jumped up and ran across the keyboard, backspaced a few letters, and is now back staring at the fish and smacking my hands/keyboard with the tail).

The other 3 cats in the house (darker colored so I can't see if they have nose problems) look like they are boog free. :(

I have white cats...they get boogs a lot, use to get them more. If it looks like something that would bother me, i pick it off. I'm a good daddy :)

My vet also said not to worry about them...

Oh boy.

Never had to be a cleenex to my little dog. 'cept when she swallowed a christmas tree icicle - and that was just once in her 16 years and on the opposite end...

Growing up with cats - well most of them were outdoor feline crazies.

Boogs, huh. <frown> not likin this ...

<adds kitty hankies to grocery list :(>

My cat gets them every once in a while. He doesn't know how to use Kleenex. So I just wash his face for him.

I know Kleenex are not eco friendly, and will just create more burden in teh land fill, but if you used a ginormous cotton handerchief to wrap up the cat, and tossed that in the washing machine, you create more problems. It is noisier, all the fur clogs the filter, the collar and bell are gonna scratch the porcelain on the washer's tub. Need I go on?

Is your cat just getting boogers or is he sneezing/coughing too?

Mine has a seasonal allergy condition/allergic lung disease. He gets boogers but when he is sneezing he blows/flings snot everywhere. It's a pain to clean up, especially if you miss some and it hardens up. He's been treated with anitbiotics and steroids.

Tude, you need another kitty that's willing to clean his boogs. In the meanwhile, Cali licks almost everything, so bring him on down!

My poor departed Minino suffered from humongous boogers that he'd sneeze out every couple days. Since he came from the Humane Society, the vet called it a chronic kennel condition. We fed him lysine supplements for the rest of his life (for an immune boost), which lessened but didn't eliminate them.

It helped that we replaced the carpets in our house with hardwood. Easier to spot the snot rocket before you step in it.
