Fifty Plus (50+) - Help! I am addicted to "Steep and Cheap"

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For those who have not discovered it yet here it is http://www.steepandcheap.com/
I keep the browser alert running all the time and have already bought quite a few things for myself and my wife at prices that are unbeatable. Their customer service is 1st class. I use the USPS priority mail and get my stuff in 2 or 3 days. If you go there be warned! you may never leave.

I have the alert also and occasionally buy something. The problem is that the sales are over so fast you miss most stuff. I liked S&C better a couple of years back when they had one item per day. You could check in the morning and be fairly likely to be able to purchase the day's item if you were interested. Still - once in a while, the alert pops up with something good while I am online.
Edit: This post got me interested again so I looked at the site and noticed the reference to it's RSS feed. I hooked that into Bloglines but it appears to be behind. Bloglines does not display the current item on S&C.

If you have firefox there is a plug in that adds S&C to the bottom of your window.
I only bought one thing from them. It was a great deal, but I've never seen anything else i wanted.

Here's another one to help with that cash flow:rolleyes:
Daily bike deals.... I've never bought anything but they've had some nice ones. They're all bike related, too.

There is no help for you. Buy a N+1 bike and spend all your cash on fixing upgrading the bike. That'll keep you safe for a week or two.
I've bought a number of items from them. The recent sefras floor and frame pump was a great deal.
You've got to watch the sizes on some of the clothing sizes. A recent XL vest would fit fine if you're 145 lbs.
I bought the Adidas jersey they had recently, thinking that at 5'4 and 160lbs and dropping it would fit. I could not even close the zipper. Fortunately I called them and they had the XL which they gave me for the same price. I called them Fri afternoon and the Jersey arrived Monday afternoon standard USPS.
I've been watching it for a few weeks now, but it's been all men's clothes and some misc stuff I don't need. Another "guy's site" is whiskeymilitia.com.
Wow. I ordered a ton of bits and pieces from Nashbar this morning. Great sale for the little things you're missing.

Yup.
Once I was giving a small seminar and the SAC Desktop alert popped up...we spent the next ten minutes discussing deals...here's a few nice ones I got last year:
Oakley Razorwires $85 (approx)
Marmot Jacket $140
Marmot Precip Pants $45

Yeah, their email sale alert snagged me too. The servers were busy so a lot of people must have responded.

I think the link in the email was bad. I had to go to nashbar.com and then I could access the sale.

The only bad part for me is I don't know if it is a good deal or not because I don't know what the stuff goes for in the first place.
I need to get me a long pair of pants since I need to start riding even if it is cold outside.
Not to high jack this but where is a good place to buy stuff like that?????
Is Performance any good? We have one of them pretty close, but it seems like there stuff is always on sale so you don't know if it is a good deal or not.

I'd never heard of this site before.
Do they ever inflate the "list" prices to make the discounts appear deeper?

I really don't think so, they are the closeout store of a place called Backcountry.com. I have bought PI pants for my wife there for $28 that were selling for $65 at other online places. I also just got some Castelli winter gloves for $14 that other sites had between $30 -$40. Other stuff I have bought has been similarly priced. Also there customer service is second to none.
I once was able to verify that Sierra Trading Post did not inflate prices, either. Many of their seconds are things in current LL Bean catalogs or available in stores.

The problem I have with this seductive site is that when I pop on to take a peek, there is often an item I had no idea I would ever be interested in (such as the knife that's currently available) but it sounds like such a deal how could I pass it up? (So far, I've been good. But I smell trouble...)

DG, what you really need is this carbon jersey:
