Figured I would post this here as you guys would probably get a kick out of it.

A little history:

A couple years ago my buddy and I yelled "Extreeeeeme" while topping out on a very easy rock climb thus "Team Extreeeeme" was born. (The phrase "Extreeeeeme" came from the movie "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" and the climb was by no means "extreme").

Over the last year or two, we have moved on to new and harder challenges, usually with a twist of some sort....

Our new challenge:

1. Go to dump.
2. Find junk bikes.
3. Scavage/salvage parts to make bike semi-roadworthy.
4. Ride 100 miles.
5. Drink beer.

I think this may be the one of our coolest adventures. I think we may even pick up a couple new members for this trip. Bonus "cool points" to whomever rides the most POS bike.

dude, you totally stole my idea for the Mongol Randonee, modeled after the Mongol Rally (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_Rally) (an automobile race where contestants have to take a tiny, cheap car with a 1000c engine and race it from London to Ulan Bator, Mongolia); but yeah, basically do a 200k with a bike acquired at a Salvation Army or dump the week before. Tools can be your own, but the complete cost of the bike cannot exceed $400; including whatever parts were needed to make the bike road-worthy. bonus time allotted for number of hand-built components that have been incorporated into the build.

This would make an awesome new years eve themed ride. Out with the old. Just make sure the ride is over before the festivities hit their peak in the evening.

My friend wants to race Next/Schwinn/Roadmaster bicycles from department stores on technical mtb trails and return them after the race. I think it's a brilliant idea.

Your friend has a death-wish. Those things are seriously dangerous, I have broken a rear shock in two by hand-tightening it... and bent a set of handlebars while pretending to do 'trials' on flat ground (just hopping in place).

Plastic pedals and brake levers = pain upon failure.
