How about something to do with three speed, 10 speed, 14 speed, indexed? Well, need room for singles I guess.

I think the vote went to Igor.
I'm just being silly asking for a pink star :p .
It sounds as if it's a fair amount of work to set up the user groups for the Igor symbol as it is.

So, any progress?
East Hill
The usergroups are built. I just need to get the star (eagle?) loaded, and then figure out how to verify donations.

Don't worry, my avatar is going back to Tama after Velotine's Day :) .
Unless you want to re-introduce yourself, in which case you would see it in Introductions :) .

Finally! Here is the official page (http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/sheldonmemorial.html). I'll try to finish things on our side this weekend, and then we just need to determine how to confirm donations.

For the 2 icon deal you could save a file with the eagle and star next to eachother, but there are probably size limits so nevermind.
I say retire the blue star for mods and give us this (appropriate and 10x11 pixels like the stars):

. . . and reissue the blue star :D

Wouldn't you rather have the members who need some delicate shepherding identified with that :D ?

I made this carbon-fiber blue star for LowCel once - - weight-weenie that he is :)

Great idea to honor Sheldon. I will be checking out those charity's.
Ok, if anyone has any suggestions for how to verify donations, we can get this rolling next week. There was some mention of a memorial happening this month as well.

Perhaps a cut and paste copy of the receipt, sent to any of the admins who can add the star/Igor?
Just as we would do if we want to donate a membership to another member?
There will be a memorial service for Sheldon Brown on Sunday, March 2.
"As many already know, there will be a Memorial Service for Sheldon this
coming Sunday, March 2 at 1:30pm. It will be at the First Unitarian Society
of Newton, across the street from Harris Cyclery.
Details and a map link are at http://www.harriscyclery.com
Prior to the service there will be a memorial ride starting and ending at
the shop:
Meet at 10:45 AM in the parking lot behind Harris Cyclery for an
informal memorial ride before the service. Departure will be at 11:00.
Distance: approximately 25 miles, pace slow to moderate. The ride will go by
way of Weston to Water Row in Sudbury (water level permitting!), one of
Sheldon's favorite places to ride, and will return by way of Lincoln.
Fixed gears, hub gears, whatever you've got, are all welcome.
Please pass the word.
Elton Pope-Lance
Sudbury, MA"

So, was this not feasible?

I'm waiting to find out who has the power to turn the ads off for donating members. We also haven't gotten the eagle loaded yet. My partner in crime at IB had the last week off as well, so now everyone is trying to catch up.

Ah! So the cut and paste receipt will work then, it's just waiting for for the eagle to land?

Still as red as ever :D .
But look! It's an Igor! Cool.
What a great way for people to know that Sheldon Brown is remembered with fondness and respect.
Thanks Brian and Internet Brands for setting this up.
East Hill
Wear that bird with pride.
If anyone else would like the eagle, they'll be available to members that have made a donation to a charitable cause, preferably in memory of Sheldon. But I'm happy to give recognition, regardless of what charity you make your donation to.
Is there a thread going on somewhere of what Harris says would be good charities?

Yes.

Any charity will work, but Revels and MassBike were the charities chosen by his family.

I haven't even had my tea yet.
I joined MassBike, as was requested by his family. Does that count? I would have joined anyway, but that Igor looks pretty nice.

Don't get used to it. :p
I try to respond to every PM as quick as as I can, but sometimes I'll complete the requested action, and not respond, due to the volume of messages I get.

I can't believe none of the moderators have one...I know Tom Stormcrowe should have one...?
Brian, are the moderators/admins just too shy?

I just need to be less busy at work. I'll ride down to the BTA on my lunch hour to make an extra donation on top of my membership...

They all deserve one, but we don't have a usergroup above the moderator level for them. I'm not even sure the moderator usergroup is set up properly.
When I have some free time...
Would be curious how much in total was raised...probably next to impossible with the PM method but would be an interesting number.

What about a new blue star graphic with the blue star and eagle next to it? If all the mods would get one there wouldn't be a need for another level, right?

This is an ongoing project, and I have no way of knowing what folks have contributed. More important is the fact that members do contribute in one way or another. Sheldon was pretty unselfish, and I'm just hoping to recognize those members that act in unselfish ways as well.
It's nice to look at the active users list, and see the eagles.

I wondered about that too, but then I was glad we couldn't count how much was raised. We're always totaling things up. This amorphic kind of thing was more in sheldon's style.
Indeed. Let me know if anyone thinks they've done enough good in this world already.
