why there aren't any threads asking things such as, "Should I wear socks?" in the SS/Fixie forum?

OMG! so like, the other day, i was riding along and i decided that my front end was a little too heavy, so like, i totally went out and bought some new carbon bars. the only problem is, i put them in my thompson 4-bolt stem, and they totally broke beacuse the clamping power of that stem is really high.

so will the cracks in my bars hinder my cadence at all? because, you know, i gotta keep my cadence up for all those weekend rides!!

oh yeah, and also i don't believe that carbon rims have a 100% failure rate.

Funny thing about cadence is, if you are wearing Pearl Izumi, you should have a good mid-high level ride with little effort. Castelli is the bomb and if you are wearing no-name/nashbar/performance, just get lost.
And if I were you, I would go out and buy a WHOLE NEW LITESPEED/Campy 10 set-up...your other bike is obviously ruined now that you cracked your bars (plus you should sue Thompson - I met this lawyer on this century/group ride we were doing to raise money for Lance Armstrong's legal fees for his divorce...Robin Williams showed up! It was so awesome that I went out and bought all the old USPS kit gear from a few years back so I can have bragging rights on the next group ride/knitting meeting). And what do you use when you shave your arms/legs/back/neck/ass? Rubbing alcohol and a match? I pay someone to pluck...

Interesting picture. Tell me- do you have to strip and get oiled up before riding or was this taken at a "specialist interest group" club :D

WOW!!! 165, you really know your stuff!! maybe you could help me decide which gloves to get to make me go faster! i was looking at some pearl-izumis, at the shop where they only work on high-class bikes, and they seemed pretty nice, but then i found almost exactly the same pair at walmart for $10 less! will the walmart gloves slow me down!? also i've heard about these new brake cables that use titanium in the housing instead of steel or whatever it is, i think it's a really great way to save some weight, but i read on another forum that they're just a status symbol and they don't actually save weight. i told those guys they were crazy and that Ti is like, 150% lighter than steel!! man, some people just don't know anything...

The only time steel is faster than anything is when you ride North - with that magnetic pull and all I can average .00007645 mph faster! Usally when I ride north I use my steel ride untill the turn around point, then I have my support vehicle swap me with my full ti rig (it cost quite a bit to have that ti chain made, but worth it to evad the drag).

I knew there was an advantage to keeping the 20+ year old steel Araya wheels on my bike.

Yep. I'm Rockin 27 inches!!!

sscyco:

did you know that a company called wipperman actually manufactured a Ti chain a while back. it cost like $250 or something ridiculous...it has been discontinued.

That's because I bought them out - don't want to give any body that extra edge.
All sillieness aside a ti chain is silly.

Pft, it takes like 10 grams off the bike. And it's all spinning weight.

I'm waiting for a carbon chain, myself.

Ha! a true gram wienie would never refer to rotational weight as "spinning weight".
BTW, I just had cleats attached to my foot bones via (very small) ti screws - I just reduced a pound of rotational mass - I'm gonna be so fast!

OMFG! RIM WEIGHT!? ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!!? WHO CARES HOW MUCH THE RIM WEIGHS IF YOU'RE GETTING KSYRIUMS, OR RACE LITES!!!?!?!?

sorry...just had to vent. there's a thread in the mechanics' forum...it's ridiculous. why anyone would CARE how much the rims for those wheelsets weigh is beyond me...IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MUCH THE RIMS WEIGH! THE DIFFERENCE WILL BE NEGLIGIBLE, IE, YOU WILL NOT NOTICE!!!

I've as much a weight weenie as anyone, I can see when you go to drastic wheels like the ZIPP wheels you might want to know to compare to other similar aero wheels but when you are comparing standard wheels I dont' feel it is that big a deal.

NOw that TI chain I saw for sale before, cost FAR outweighs the benefits. Even when I built up my road bike I tried to make it light but cost was definately a factor. For example I needed to purchase a lockring for the cassette I could had choice of a alloy or Ti one, ti was light but quite a bit more for the few grams was not worth it.
