Winter Cycling - Cheap gloves

I found some _cheap_, _cheap_ gloves at Walmart. $2 for fleece gloves with a soft elastic gauntlet. Nice.

They can be used alone, or, in colder weather, inside of (cheap) outer gloves.

Stock may vary throughout North America, but if you're looking for some winter gloves it's probably worth a visit.

For those of you looking for cheap gloves, you can also check out all the ski shops and ski resorts for pre-winter sales. There are a ton of ski shops having sales now. In fact, I passed a local ski place who just had a tent ski swap going on this past Columbus Day weekend. I picked up some cheap pair of winter gloves as well as ski goggles recently to try out this winter..

For temps just around the freezing mark, you can use those mini-gloves Walmart (and other places) sell for about $1 . . . put them under your regular cycling gloves and you're set.

I use those thin beaded work gloves under my regular cycling gloves and they work quite well, 'though the temperature here hasn't gone below 40F as yet. I'd like a good pair of full-fingered cycling gloves, but I'm a cheapskate.

I tried a pair of heavier knitted gloves, but guess what? Knitted gloves and Velcro do not happy companions make! After the second day I was trailing streamers like a parade float. :rolleyes:

I have a pair of Isotoner gloves with padding in the palms for men I got for about $8 I use when it's cold. Otherwise I use a pair of Trico Sports gel open fingered open weaved gloves I got for about $15 that have way out lasted Pearl Izumi gel lites.

Go into Walmart or Superstore, head for the toques, mitts, scarves section (check both the female and male sections of the store) and look around. There should be a bin or shelf full of the things. They are "one-size-fits-all" small things that don't look like they'd fit anyone but a child, but they stretch and are just fine.

They breathe, they're cheap, and they provide enough protection to ride around the freezing mark just fine. I go through about 1 pair per year, but at $1, that's not bad at all.

They are also thin enough to fit under all my cycling gloves - even my tighter ones, but I wear them under one particular pair of cycling gloves, with a full terry back on them, which is just slightly looser on me (we've all got 2 or 3 pair of cycling gloves on the go, don't we? :D).
