... or in english, Happy Chinese New Year.
It is the year of the Rat. Depending on what dialect you speak, you may pronounce it differently. But then again, what do I know ... I'm a friggin' ABC.
Anyways, happy chinese new year. I'll be down visiting dad, so it looks like I'll have to avoid the chinese new year parades going on around his place. Oh what joy. I guess once I get there, I'll have to get away from it all by .... riding my bike! Hey, what a novel concept.

It's funny, my dad lives a block from Garvey in Monterey Park. Most of the time he tries to avoid the area. I guess we'll see what type of mood he is in this time.

Happy Chinese New Year!
Nothing happening in SD that I'm aware of though. Normally I just go to Chinese malls to get the food & NY snacks! :D

Happy New Year, folks -
Heading out to Chinatown on Sunday to run the Firecracker 5k. Other than that, not much celebration for me - I wore my Chinese jacket to the school yesterday where I was seeing a client, and apparently the Panda Express folks putting on the assembly thought I was a teacher/staff and proceeded to head towards me. I made a run for it.

Only unmarried persons get red envelopes. And yes, the evelopes are made in China but I don't know if the color contains lead.

Should be great weather for it. A friend of mine will be working one of the booths, I might ride over to check out the scene.

The only time I saw Hong Kong quiet was during Chinese New Year! The city actually has a humming sound 24/7.
I was in the aviation industry.
Let me share a story about the Chinese Goat Festival, at least that is what I thought he said when I asked what that big bamboo building was covered in red and gold banners with a fire burning in front. He told me it was the Goat Festival. He asked me where I was from and I told him Texas. Ah yes, Tex Sa Se. Do you have goats there? Well matter of fact we raised Angora Goats. Aih yah, you raised angry goats. What do you do with angry goats? I explained that we cut their hair off to make sweaters and would barbecue them and eat them. This really upset the guy and he was loudly exclaiming: Aih ya, Aih ya, you cut their hair off and make sweaters and then eat angry goats.
Later in the day I was telling my wife about the strange encounter and the Goat Festival. She looked at me and laughed and said: It isn't a "goat festival", but it is the Ghost Festival - ghosts of their ancestors.
Hong Kong was always like that for me. A place of discovery

^^^ Funny story. I was wondering what the Goat Festival is. I was born there, though I moved to Canada when I was 10.
I'm 44, and still get red envelopes!
Because you're single?
When I was a kid my Dad had Chinese restaurants on Long Island (NY) and I and my siblings used to make a killing on Chinese New Year because all of the employees gave us red envelopes.
We give our hapa kids red envelopes -- which reminds me...
Happy New Year
BTW, my sister is a rat. See prefers to refer to this as the year of the mouse -- HA! :)

Actually, I went riding with my wife on Thurs [the 1st day of CNY] at Rose Bowl and ran few laps up to the Lida, ChevyChase, Iverness (sp). I even saw Enzo Gucci and the gang at the parking lot, but I dont think he knows me.
But yeah it's too bad no local group ride wkend. I encourage Sally to go ride the PV hills tomorrow while I will provide the SAG after work [if she is still riding ;)]
Happy CNY everyone!
