when i post a perfectly legitimate question on the road forum (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38610), and a lot of people view it (23 at this posting) yet, no one ****ing responds.

i would have posted it here because there is generally a better community here, and people tend to like to help each other out, but it was about road wheels...so...

but jesus...maybe it's because it's about a wheelset that isn't based around superior race performance?

ok i'm responding here cuz ya shamed me into it. i'm not gonna _read_ this thread without responding to it.

but i have no freakin idea about those speedcity wheels. the only thing i'd balk at is that they look a bit heavy and i've never ridden on mavic hubs. co they tend to be pretty good?

on a mostly unrelated note, at messenger worlds i saw a lot of fixed-gear bikes with spinergy or other three/four spoke carbon wheels on the front, with traditional 34/36 spoke wheels in the rear. anyone ride a setup like this?

What I hate even more is having a bunch of responses and everyone who bothered to post says something to the effect of "I don't know the answer to your question, but good luck" or some other useless waste of space. Don't see this too much here, but I do see it a lot on the Monkey.

never ran the tri/4 spoke fr, 32/36 rr...Spinergy wheels scare the crap outta me. I have seen a few lawsuits over "exploding carbon fiber ribs" and people who have eating pavement BAD b/c of them...

I dunno.

I have Ksyriums and love em!

yeah...ksyriums are my first choice, but i don't want them to get ripped off...especially if i end up messengering, which i may have to turn to if i don't find work soon.

If you're riding a c/f wheel in the city you're a dumbass. It's gonna get either broken, stolen, or both.

And don't ask me how both'll happen, just trust me; if it is c/f and can go wrong - it will....

i'm pretty sure it was a race weekend setup.

the course was windy and scary enough to rule out disc rears. not to mention that most couriers aren't gonna be able to afford a fixed disc rear that they'll only ride 3 times a year.

several of the japanese couriers raced on hed 3 spoke wheels in the front, but i think that was just a style thing. all black, sunglasses all the time, etc.

not to derail the conversation again, but... do any of y'all tape your top tubes to stop the bars from chipping the paint by accident, like the 70s track riders used to?

OneTinSloth someone asked about those wheels last week also, so one reason for no responses it was already answered about week ago. Second those are very new wheels on the market, so hardly anyone has actualy used them yet.

Here is where they were discussed before, not realy much info to be honest since these wheels were just released recently does not seeem like anyone on here has actualy used them yet.

Sloth, while I have not seen the wheel in person, it appears to be a heavy duty Kyserium. Those I have seen a bunch of, great wheel, tough and light. The city must be even tougher because they are pretty heavy for a low spoke wheel. Also, it is a cassette type wheel, I don't know if you are looking to it for fixed.
However Dura/Ace hubs and Mavic treking rims would be tough and cost less be easier to fix (The Mavic straight pull wheels can be a pain to rebuild, kind of like doing a moto wheel) cheaper to fix(Kyserium spokes are a couple of bucks each) and less stealable altho in the big city any thing is stealable.
P.S. I missed this in the road section, I have been ground up rebuilding an old car and have not spent much time here lately.

i wanted new wheels to put on my road bike...so not fixed. right now i have 105 hubs laced to old ritchey rock (?) rims...they're brownish black, basically like MA3s...i like them, but they're a bit fragile, or at least seem to be.

thanks rev. i really like the looks of the speedcitys, they're like, all mad max and sh*t. it's cool that they're like ksyriums, but tougher...another option would be maybe phil wood road hubs with i don't even know what kind of rim...maybe an open pro, or a cxp33? but phil road hubs are...$360 just for the rear. and i would probably cry if anything ever happened to them...so i think when i square away everything that needs to be squared away, i'll do some heavy duty shopping...

That cxp 33 is tough, about the only way to damage one is to back over it.

yeah...i have a black 650c cxp33 on my pursuit bike, with a 700c cxp21 on the rear...been meaning to replace it with a matching black one...anyway.

the 21 ended up under the wheel of a truck when i got hit once, and i mean the outer portion of the truck tire was resting on my spokes...i stood up, dusted myself off, pulled the wheel out from under the truck, spun it to check the true, talked to the guy who hit me, who actually ASKED IF THE BIKE WAS OKAY *gasp* and rode off, i noticed later that my fork was bent, but that's since been replaced AND repaired for a total cost of about $15...that wheel has taken a LOT of abuse and remained pretty damn straight.

I've had a set of the Mavic Speedcitys for about a year. I've commuted, cyclocrossed and toured on them without any problems. I put them on my wife's bike about two months ago and they're going strong. She did managed to knock the front one out of true going down a set of stairs (only four though, she said) with a 700*23mm tire but, any wheel would do that if you were stupid or unfortunate enough to try it. All in all 2500 miles and they are working well. The only thing I don't like about them is the braking surface is kind of slick/****ty.
