Beggsy,
I'm a tourer and I have a bent with shimano disk brakes. I have done 4000k since last May and I plan to do a 1000k ride this June. I have climbed over the tableland a few times and done a trip to Cooktown returning the coast road. The trip had 4 ranges to cross. My brakes have performed well with only minor cable adjustment but I have decided I'll replace the pads and cables for my upcoming ride. I'm going online to find out what to do. I reckon I'll Google "Shimano Disk Brake maintenance". I'll Keep you posted.

There's some Technical Info downloads on the link below that should show you how to install, adjust, and service the brakes.
