Bob here. I'm just short of 57 years old, am a native New Yorker now living in San Francisco, and have two bikes--a 1990 Specialized Crossroads with a ripped up saddle that gets me to and from work on weekdays and a vintage 2002 Mikkelsen for serious riding. The latter is a custom frame number built by Bernie Mikkelsen, a very talented (and very colorful) frame builder with a one man shop in the City of Alameda.
I've been riding since I was very young but got serious at the end of 1998 when I signed up for my first AIDS Ride, from San Francisco to LA. Since then I've become seriously addicted to cycling. After my first AIDS Ride I became a training ride leader and have been one every year since then, first for the AIDS Ride and then for AIDS/LifeCycle, the successor event. Same beneficiaries, but now produced by them instead of by a contractor. I log about 2500 miles a year on the Mikkelsen and have ridden from San Francisco to LA each year except for 2002.
Here's the shameless plug part: Yes, AIDS/LifeCycle is a fundraiser...I'm sure you can figure out what that means. Go here to find out more about AIDS/LifeCycle and about me: www.aidslifecycle.org/1174. My page includes a training blog and links to my Flickr site (a general link in the main text and links to individual photo sets in each blog entry). Yes, my other hobby is photography and yes, I want to raise money. Show some love people!
