Rick, the Mint they are talking about isn't mint as in the kind you get in chewing Gum, rather the Mint that is chopped up and put into Vinegar to make "Mint sauce"...

It's not easy to explain.

These are some great films that were posted in the C&V forum a little while back and one cannot help but notice the lack of derailer gears and abundance of fixed gear and three speed equipped bicycles.

The interestng thing is that I was born and grew up within 15 miles of where they were riding, from Rugby (where Rugby was invented) to Kenilworth is a pretty long ride, looking at the route they were pretty close to a Metric Century.

I like the part where they stopped at the Pub for a Pint....there were no Starbucks in those Days but the Riders didn't seem too bothered. They seemed to be pretty happy Posing outside the Pub.

Also, not many People owned Cars in 1955 as you can tell from the lack of Traffic...it's just totally congested now in that area...

I feel like I could be right there with them enjoying the ride... since I have a few of these 50's bikes.

I think I saw a bike that was nearly identical to my '54 in the first clip.

I think it's just the slightly offset angle of the picture... I won't be finding out how nice a bike it is until spring hits.

Nice Bikes Sixty Fiver...

I got my first Road Bike when I was 11, that was...ermmm..41 years ago, I have a Pic with me on it, I wish I still had the Bike, it was a red Coventry Eagle....made in my Home Town :)

I remember taking off with a few Mates for a ride during the summer with nothing more than a Bottle of Pop (soda), I would also ride it to School every Day, rain or snow, 4 miles each way...I lost count of the amount of times I crashed, I still have the scars to prove it...

I quit riding when I was 16 and started again when I was 45, I borrowed a Bike, rode from Newport Beach to Huntington Beach with a couple of friends and became hooked again even though it took me 3 Days to get over that 12 mile ride, it was July 4th, 95 degrees and almost killed me :(

I browse ebay and Craigslist sometimes looking for a 50's British Bike, I'd love to own one again for old time's sake.

I ride the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour so I've been properly introduced to the ways of British Cycling in the 1930's - 1940's - 1950's. Plus I'm in the U.K. once a year, but have yet to ride a bike there. London does seem to be quite the cycling city!

I found both my bikes locally... the '54 was a gift I received a few weeks ago and the Lenton was purchased last fall.
