Southern California - POLL: American Cancer Society Charity Bike Ride in April?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Would anyone be interested in participating in an informal charity bike ride benefitting the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Arcadia? This organization funds research for new medicines, provides patients with services like make overs for women going through kemo and rides to and from the hospital for patients who can't drive themselves. Not to mention educating the community about treatment and prevention. I have participated in Relay for several years now and figured that since cyclists are inherently fit and health conscious, what a better fit?
The ride would be in the SGV. Route to be determined, with help from BFR's of course. Check out the website (http://www.arcadiarelay.com). Don't forget to check out the videos.:D

I've been a supporter of this charity in the past. You create a charity ride and I'll ride it if I can (date allows) and/or give a contribution for sure. Thanks, Tony, for stepping in as someone new on here and starting a ride interest thread! I look forward to meeting you. :)

I'd be interested, too. Not sure where it will fit with BA training, which is the first weekend of May, but I'll make it if I can.

Thanks Mary and Joy :D It's a great cause and very close to my heart. If you get a chance, check out the videos on the website. I will start putting a route together and hopefully other people will chime in. :(

Well, where exactly are you looking to ride?

Haven't really decided. I have to make it a bit challenging because I know you all can ride circles around me  Start at Rosebowl, foothills, SGR north bound??? I am open to suggestions. I'm thinking about 50 miles.

BTW, how are you doing after your spill? Better than your helmet of course :D

I'm better and I plan to ride this weekend, thanks for asking. :)
As for a route, I'm not sure exactly what to suggest, but maybe even a Whittier Narrows type ride or a Rose Bowl Canyon route. Sometime not too difficult so all levels can give it a go. There are tons of lunch options. Also, you could plan a Chantry Flats ride (with the biggest climb being up to Chantry), and then lunch at some great place in Pasadena? You could easily get 50 miles if folks started at the Rose Bowl.

Thanks Rick. Looks like April is very crowded. I think May might be better, like Mary said.

Rick, I'm gonna have to join you all for a club ride soon, when I get past this stupid flu. Your website is pretty good.
