This is an article about our Mayor, Richard Daley, introducing a cycling related ordinance.
"Chicago bicyclists, Mayor Daley knows your pain. The
mayor introduced an ordinance Wednesday that would slap
fines ranging from $150 to $500 on motorists who turn left
or right in front of someone on a bicycle, pass with less than
three feet of space between car and bike or open a vehicle
door into the path of a cyclist.
Daley, an avid rider, said he personally has been involved
in unhappy encounters with motorists, providing them with
“a few choice words” and “salutes” that he said were delivered
“in the Chicago way.”
Here are a couple comments on the article that I found interesting. Not a lotta love out there for us roadies:

"I hate people on bicycles, they dont' stop at stop signs they drive around cars they put themselves is hazardous situations and the poor motorist that has an accident is always at fault unless the get an officer that knows the bicycle laws and is not afraid to handle the job correctly. I know it sounds petty but we really need to start stopping and citing these rougue and hazardous cyclist."

"Cyclists are among the most self righteous, arrogant law breakers around. That isn't to say all of them are that way, but enough that we notice it constantly. Running red lights, failure to stop, failure to yield, weaving in and out of stopped traffic, riding on sidewalks knocking over pedestrians. We know for a fact that the Bike Unit used to do "Bike Safety Checkpoints" up on the north side and racked up an impressive amount of tickets until they were told to knock it off by certain politicians.
But a bicycle is a vehicle and drivers of vehicles can get tickets. It cuts both ways."
