Just seen the cranks in the metal.
Stroked the svelte lines with my grubby fingers
They are VERY PRETTY.
Actually prettier than REcord or any of that Carbon crap:D
Well shuffed. just ordered one in 172.5mm
Damn light too
With BB, whole set u is slighty heavier than the Carbon Record Cranks and BB at a fraction of the cost.

Well Done Shimano. Welly nice product

Anybody want some FSA Carbon Pro Team Issue cranks with Dura Ace Octalink BB???

For free? What's the crankarm length? I'll sure take 'em if they're 170mm.

While I like the fact they now offer a 10-speed I personally think the cranks look wierd.

I probably will never buy campy but I think I will wait to see if Shimano redesigns their cranks.

I felt exactly the same way before I actually got my hands on a set of them. They really didn't look all that bad...

People that think the new Dura Ace is ugly are probably the same people that thought the Audi TT was ugly. Times change. Shimano is giving you a stiffer and lighter product. Did you really think it would be in the same package? Personally I think Shimano is light years ahead of Campy when it comes to innovation.

I still think the audi tt is ugly.

I like the front of the RX8... Stick the back of the RX7 on it and I'm sold.

I like the Z4 but I hate the Z3...

So I think I can prove that I'm not bent on new == ugly.

I think they [shimano] went for a strong-sleek-fluid-look but it doesn't work for me.

2004 Shimano is ugly as hell, Campy stuff looks sooo much better, now lets get into an argument on Campy and Shimano

I hear it works nicely, but they are nowhere as eye appealing as Campy Record though. I usually go for function over appearance, therefore since campy has made 10 speed for awhile now, and that my road bike had reccord(god bless it's soul) if I was to rebuild it, I would probably put Campy Record back on it. But as soon as Shimano works the bugs out though, maybee I'd consider changing.

My money goes to Shimano, way too cool and way better function wise.

Are you guys crazy??? :D

The 04' Shimano look butt ugly!

I like the TT but Shimano crank is still ugly IMHO.
the rest of the line is ok, the crank is just too clunky
looking for my particular tastes.

I like the TT. I like the FX45. LI like the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. I hate most of what Pontiac makes, except the new GTO (which is actually imported from Holden Australia). I like the retro Mustang set to come out pretty soon. I like the Z4, Z3, Nissan Z, G35 coupe, BMW M3. But that's just me.

Shimanos new cranks are perty, but I prefer carbon. That's just me, too.

I don't like the TT but I do like the Audi wagons. I've seen the Shimano cranks up close and I think they're ugly. Maybe in time they will grow on me but I doubt it.

In person, the cranks really look better then in pictures. My LBs got the '04 bikes in, and the cranks really look alright. the rest of the components look pretty much the same, regardless of how much they are hyped.

well not everything is too everyone's taste.
Record has that retro look and the Dura Ace has a more modern look to it.
The amount of machining and detailed design is staggering.

Personally I think the Record crank is now starting to look very dated.

I don't see anything 'dated' about a carbon fiber crank.

Take a look at the square taper bracket.

thank you.
although an ISIS version is in the pipe line.
Also that crank costs £700 or over $1000US!!!
Don't think you'll be seeing many around at that price.

and yes it does look dated because even though the material is nice and new the actual design is looks amusingly like the 80's Brev cranks have on my fixed gear...

I think that the mere fact that there is so much discussion about the dura ace crank means that the designers have done a good job. Love it or hate it, the designers have put forth a design that is different than the pack and I applaud their design. We have plenty of run of the mill cranks. I

I do like the TT but the Boxser is the way to go! Think about it good engine, stick shift (it must be a stick shift) and a rag top!

Nah, the Boxter is the poor man's Porsche. If I drive a Porsche, it'll be a 911 variant. Preferably with AWD and an engine that puts out 450/420 or so. But, that won't happen. The TT comes in a stick variety, or is about to.

I occcasionally get to drive my dad's TT it has 225hp, AWD and a 6 speed stick. One of my co-workers has a Boxster S. I have driven both, and prefer the Audi. It also makes more sense here in New England, unless you have a winter car too.

Will it have carbon cranks?

Nah, man, already have carbon cranks.

No, but it will have a square taper bottom bracket. :D

i like square taper BBs. and i like how campy cranks look...i don't really see any difference between how the campy cranks look and how 105 cranks look. i don't really think 105s look any more modern than campys. they look different, but not more modern.

yeah, the new dura ace cranks look different, but most road cranks out there now look pretty much the same.

I saw the new 04 Dura Ace group for the first time yesterday...The Shimano rep had it all..in the boxes...super light...and sexy...I want one for a build next year...now for the frame...hmmm....

I think the square taper makes more sense, think about it...when installing, you simply align one arm down and one arm up, with the new design you need to pay more attention to aligning the cranks.

I too have driven both the tt and the boxser, but not the 225 hp version of the tt. the boxser is a true rag top...and in san francisco, foggy days make for great top down driving. true the boxser is a poor man's porsche, but compare the preformance to the price, you get plenty of car with the boxser and with the left over money you could buy a new dura ace groupo. ;)
