I am going to change my stem and have looked around at them and they are all different lengths. I read that a good starting point for the right stem size is look down at the front wheel hub, and if you can see it (ahead) you need a longer one and if you see it (below) you need a shorter one. I know this is a very basic way but I guess its a good starting point.
I gave it a try today and after riding 15 miles I could see it ahead & below at various times on the ride. I suppose because I slide forward and backwards a bit during the ride so is there another way I can find out the right stem length. I'll be getting it from the internet to save money so a LBS is out (I feel kinda bad getting info from them and then buting it elswere.

Read peter white cycles and use that as a guide but not set in stone.No matter what fit guide you use,you still will tweak it around.
