I know most people will say to go with one of the Marathon tires for touring, but I have decided to try an older mountain bike as a tourer. I know nothing about mountain bike tires and was wondering what model tire people recommend for touring?

I plan to stay on paved roads, no off road touring.

ps, sorry if this has been brought up before, my search turned up nothing.

I've put Bontrager 26x2 Select Invert K's on my Bianchi Nyala two years ago, and have had wonderful service from them. Comfortable, seem to be strong enough to happily handle urban riding as well as the planned long distance road trips.

Schwalbe has several Marathon tires in the 26" size for mountain bikes that will work well.

I would say that the Panaracer Pasela TG would be another option. Also available in 26 inch size. I have a set that I haven't mounted yet, but have a set on a 27" road bike and they have proven to be pretty tough. I have set of Marathons on a rigid mountain that has been my rider over the past 6 months and have been very happy with them.

Oh, I went to the Schwalbe site and I must have missed the Marathons in 26". Thanks for all the info.
