I just got a call from an old friend who says he has a gorgeous Eddie Merckx Corsa Extra with full Dura Ace from '86 or '87

Looks like I can get this bike for a song if I want too, but know nothing about it. He says it retailed for about 5K back then, but he got it for $2,800 due to a family member working at the store.

Doesn't have matching/original fork...not sure what is on it. Any idea what this is worth? ...he says "mint" condition as it has been hanging in his garage for many years. Had a couple seasons of regular/heavy use.

Is this bike heavy?
I assume down tube shifters...I currently have an '03 Calfee with Campy Chorus...would you use this bike as is or change the grouppo?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...
Thanks,
Mike

Personally I would leave it all original! I have a 1986 Bridgestone 300 that is all original: downtube friction shifters, 27" wheels and single pivot brakes with traditional non-aero levers. This bike is in show condition but I ride it as my all-around bike and ride my Lemond for events such as charity rides/ time trials etc. If you can get your hands on a nice lugged steel bike you will be amazed at the all day riding capabilites it will posses. It may be a little heavy but man they are soooo sweet!
