Well today marked a momentous occasion in my cycling career, almost the first time ever (excluding the first few races I did) that I entered a race wearing some other kit besides UNC-Chapel Hill. Not quite as pretty as Tar Heel blue, but I'll manage. Anyway I got good results today: 5th in the 3/4 race after lapping the field once and chasing a lot after that to try to prevent another group from getting around (they got around anyway). In the 1/2/3 race, I got 2nd because Jon Speer of FSC and I managed to get 2 laps up on the field. That 2nd trip around with just us two was painful! It only took about 10 or 12 minutes but it felt frickin eternal. I must say the finish didn't go super well, though part of the blame goes to the fact that his leadout was far superior to mine. Oh well, I'll take 2nd and the upgrade points that go with it. The season seems to be shaping up well for me... Also saw cat 4 and 5 Tar Heels getting good results, so both my collegiate and USAC teams are going to be pretty darned good. I think I'll take tomorrow off from racing...

You mean Jon Speer of Triangle Velo, ex-FSC now :) He had both FSC and TV (by which I mean me) blocking for him, plus Curtis wasn't about to help anybody catch you... it was a smart move, and I REALLY wanted to join you up the road, but it would have upset the balance and probably kept you guys from getting around.
Nice job.

Oh... well he was wearing that sexy ass red and blue kit so he looked like a FSCer to me... thanks for blocking! yeah, this teamwork stuff is kind of annoying, i'm finding.

Yep. Nothing harder for me than to be a good teammate and let a move go up the road without getting into it. Having a cohesive team does wonders in higher category races, though, so it's worth it.

Either of you go to Rockingham? I was planning on coming to OCS for another Citizens/Cat5/4/40+ Masters/clydesdale drubbing, but my wife came down with strep throat.

no, I didn't go down there, pre-rode the NCSU road race course and then raced in an alleycat instead. Truckin where were you? It was a hoot.

I didn't go to Rockingham either. Jon's brother was leaving Sunday to move to Taxachusetts, so we went mountain biking for a couple of hours with him first thing, then did another couple of hard hours on the road in the wind, then a final bit with Jon's wife so she could get out for a while. I wanted to do the alleycat for fun but completely forgot about it, unfortunately. Who won?
Oh, and what do you think of the course for the State rr?

wanders, I knew the wind would be nasty at the Rock, so I stayed in CH and rode in the wind there. It was cheaper that way and hurt just as much :)

i won the alleycat in a "sprint" finish with Dylan (sprint = chugging a pbr). prize was a plate of chickpeas that tim nielsen cooked. mmm. only 4 of us raced but it was still fun, hopefully we will do another one.
The State RR course looks fun, I think. A couple of the turns are a bit tight and need to be swept but I am sure that will be taken care of. It has a lot of rolling hills and a couple decent grades including one right before the finish, nothing selective tho. I guess this will be your first cat 2 rr and my first a rr if I'm not mistaken. We'll see how that goes. Oh and there were a ton of unleashed dogs that chased us, let's pray they don't run into the peloton.

Welcome to Sanford. It's great for dogervals...my favorite is the unleashed pitbull hill repeat.

Haha, yeah, when I've ridden down there I've usually been with a local who can warn me when a dogerval is coming up!
