Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Intro/ de lurking.

Hi Y'all.
I'm TJ, I live in York PA... currently hovering right about 300# (5' 11") and about to dive back into cycling.
I used to ride quite a bit when i was younger, and I really miss that place i used to get to after 15 miles or so when everything was working 100%...
I need to find the time to ride, no chance of me commuting at this point (1.5hr drive each way).

Ive been messing around with cruisers for the past two years and I've deciced that its time to get a "real" bike again.. So far, i've been looking at the Trek LX 7.3, Fisher Wingra, and the Raleigh cadent 1 (whatever the lower cadent is..)
If you have any experience with these, please let me know, thanks!

I have a 2003 Trek 7300, which is basically the 7.3. I swap out my suspension fork for a rigid and it made all the difference. For the record, I am your size and weight. I love mine and did 1700 miles on it last year.

Welcome to our little niche in the world. You can also look on Craigslists for deals on some pretty good used bikes. You and I (and Jax) are all about the same size. I currently ride an old diamondback mountain bike that I have fixed up with new parts (note to self, work on paint job) found on ebay, craigslist and recycled cycles in seattle.

Neil or Neal, I can't remember your spelling, I apologize to you sir, but how are those wheels holding up for you?

I'm also glad to hear that I'm on the right track to picking out this bike. (at the moment, im thinking more along the lines of the Fisher.. its pretty much the same as the trek.. a couple of bucks cheaper.. will save me money for cycle clothes!)

Historian, I might take you up on that ride.. I'm planning on (not really all THAT big of a deal) riding from here in York, to my old home in Annapolis, Md.. I'm going to go with my Wife and a small group of people, we'll use the Heritage Rail-Trail here in york, take it to the state line, then take the Rail-trail that runs to Baltimore... then we'll take the light-rail through the city..and pick up the B&A Trail (nicely paved!) south of Baltimore and run it to Annapolis.
