Not 100% on this one myself, but if you have a bikejournal account, check this thread (http://www.bikejournal.com/thread.asp?ThreadID=%7BFEEC4069-9259-4FE4-B79E-97DBBF5C2E03%7D).

I am new to this virtual velodrome , my usual haunt has been bikejournal. I rode with a few of you fine bikefourm folks last weekend on a Jobob ride. It was my pleasure.
Jobob and I are kind of co-leading this one. Please join us at Dublin Bart for a 7AM start on the 16th.
I know it is early but that leaves a lot of day left after the 111 mile ride. Hope to see you there!

Hi there ! I just returned from a weekend trip.
Yes, of course, come along. Here's the gist of what I posted on bikejournal:
LanceOldstrong & I cordially invite you to join us on a century ride, give or take, along the hills and scenic vistas of the San Francisco East Bay on Saturday Feb. 16.
LOS and I are still finalizing the route and we will post it here when it's ready, but here's what we have so far:
We will be departing from the Dublin Bart Station at 7 am. That's right, 7 am. LOS has an engagement that evening and I'm just slow, so that's when we're leaving. If you want to leave later, fine, we'll have route sheets posted. Most of you will have no trouble catching up to me. :p
We will head south from the Dublin BART station to Sunol, west along Niles Canyon Rd. and climb up Palomares Rd.
We'll then go thru Castro Valley (passing near the Castro Valley BART station), and climb up Redwood, Pinehurst and Canyon Rds, then head up Moraga Way / Camino Pablo (passing by the Orinda BART station) and then over Bear Creek Road, where we will climb the "Three Bears".
Then we'll head northeast on Alhambra Valley Rd., where you will reach a decision point :
you can continue up Franklin Canyon to Cummings Skyway into Crockett, and then take Carquinez Scenic Drive to Martinez and back towards Alhambra Ave,
or,
you can bypass that loop entirely which would eliminate 20 miles and an as-yet-undetermined amount of climbing (but also some really lovely views of the bay & the Carquinez Strait).
The route continues on around Pacheco and Pleasant Hill and heads along the Iron Horse Trail (passing near the Pleasant Hill BART station), and Walnut Creek (passing near the Walnut Creek BART station) and south along Danville Blvd thru Danville. Then we resume the Iron Horse trail back to the Dublin BART, or, if one prefers, along San Ramon Valley Rd to Foothill Rd to the Dublin BART.
Total mileage for the route, at the moment, is about 112 miles. This might change some as we work it out. Since Bikely's elevation function is kaput I can't give you an estimate of the climbing but my guess is for the entire route it's about 7000 ft. or less.
If you're concerned about the distance, there is the 20 mile loop you can bypass. Plus the route passes by several BART stations so there are multiple alternative starting/stopping points. You could even pull a Rosie Ruiz and hop on BART at some point to take you back to Dublin. :)
LOS posted a link to the route on RouteSlip, but Routeslip gives my computers grief, so here's the route on Bikely. We'll probably be fine-tuning the route sheet this week & will try to have the final version posted by mid-week.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/LOS-s-East-Bay-century-plus
Alas, the elevation gain function on Bikely appears to be no more ... :p
Rules of the Jobob Ride:
Go your own pace. Go as fast or as slow as you wish.
Regroups are optional. Jobob does not want people to feel they have to wait for long periods of time. Unless perhaps they happen to be waiting in a coffee shop and enjoying coffee & cake whilst they are waiting.
Since Jobob is often the slowest person on the ride, Jobob leads from the back. Route sheets are provided so hopefully everyone up ahead of her will not get lost. If some chose not to use the route sheet and get lost, well, that's their problem.
If in the event there is a person on the ride who is actually slower than Jobob, Jobob will hang back with said person unless said person would really rather not be inflicted with Jobob's company. :D

Wow, is the mileage and elevation gain on routeslip correct? 111 miles and 9400 feet of climbing. That's one tough ride. That would wipe me out, and not anything left for the ride to the Prologue the next day. I might have the pass on this one.
Yeah, this route may have gotten a bit out of hand - maybe adding in The Bears wasn't such a bright idea. Mea culpa. Yet there are some over on bikejournal who are thinking of tacking on Skyline & Grizzly Peak Blvds, oy.
So, one more rule of the Jobob ride:
You are perfectly welcome to take any shortcut you wish, either by road or by BART.
I'm probably going to take BART at some point. Or perhaps revert to my wimpy route and bypass Bear Creek as well as Carquinez Scenic. :D
Hope to make it on Saturday. I know I'll wimp out at some point :D
More than likely, I'll split off at Moraga and head back to danville blvd via the Orinda/Lafayette trail, and back to the start. Roughly 70 miles (and a lot less climbing ;) )
This will be my first long ride of the year, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to be way off the back. ;)

Hey Jo, I'm not making a commitment right now cause I wussed out of the your last ride, but I'm going to try for the shorter loop with you maybe. I'm like Ron, we're going to the PA Prologue so don't want to be complete undone.

Darn! Looks like another nice ride I'm gonna have to miss :(
Hope to make it on Saturday. I know I'll wimp out at some point :D

Hey Sean, Lee & I hope you can make it! Go as far as the spirit moves you. :)
LOS & I have worked out the routes & have posted them on Bikely. The elevation gain function is working again on Bikely, btw - and I've found the elev gain info on Bikely to be a lot more realistic than on Routeslip.
Here's the Shorter Route, which is about 93 miles and 5000 ft of climbing:
www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/East-Bay-Almost-Century-no-Carquinez
Here's the Longer Route, which includes a 20-mile loop out along the Carquinez Scenic Drive. It's about 113 miles and 6200 ft of climbing:
www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/LOS-s-East-Bay-century-plus
At this point, LOS and I plan to do the shorter route, and perhaps tack on an extra 7 miles or so at the end (possibly out to Sunol & back) to make it a full century.
If you're not sure you're up to these distances, the route passes by several BART stations so you could hop on BART at some point to take you back to Dublin.
We'll be heading out at 7 am from the Snack Kiosk area at the Dublin BART station. Come join us if you're so inclined. :)

I'm there, see you at 7am. One question though, if anyone knows. Parking available at the Bart? Free? or where would be a good spot.
Pete

Thanks for the link
I am hopefully in for this ride. My sleep schedule has been whacked for the past couple weeks so waking up at 5am will be a challenge. How steep are the grades on this ride besides the Palomares? I haven't decided which bike to bring.

I'll show up at the start, but not sure how long I'll hang in. Depends on how strong I feel. I may take you up on that option to bail at a Bart station. But if I do go, beware of roving cameras!!!!

I did my Feb 16th ride already. :D
Traversed one country, crossed the border to another, wandered around a bit, then returned back. Have to work out the miles, especially considering the few times I got a bit turned around and did some extra loops. :p
Oh and got into a bit of trouble with the border patrol. How was I supposed to know that a bicycle is a motorcycle, not a pedestrian? :o

lol ... So what country are you in now? You cross more borders in one ride than I do in 4 years :D
Be careful out there. Glad you didn't get thrown into the slammer. Was the border patrol cute at least? :p
It's been so long since we've been on a ride. When you get home, we gotta do a ride together (but hopefully I'll be able to keep up with you) :)
Take care
I'm awake, sorta. Never can sleep much before a bf.net ride.

Damn ... I can't believe it. I missed the ride. I was on the north side of the bart station. Only after coming home, I realize there is probably parking on the south side (and probably where everyone started). Well, 64 miles in the car today at least. At least I'm back here in time to catch a club ride.
Sorry, no pictures from spingineer on this ride today.
Oh, man. So sorry, Ron. Yup, we were on the south side of the station and wondering whether or not you were gonna make it. I'll try to post pics later tonight and I know Pete has tons of pics too. Again, sorry we missed you. :(

That's ok alain. I actually was planning to only to the Palomares climb anyways, and head back. I ended up doing my own hills back home.

Alain, what happened to you guys??? You dialed it to 400 watts and droped the hamer on us and disappeared.
grrrrrrr......
It was just so not my day! :(
With all of the best intentions, I set out this morning, only to miss the bart train that would get me there by 7am by a few minutes. I guess the next one got me there 10-15 minutes after 7. With the cold at that hour, I didn't really want to work on any kind of chase (heck, it was hard enough to talk myself into riding), and simply set on down the road towards sunol at a leisurely pace, hoping that maybe someone was slower than me that morning (a futile thought! but it kept me going).
Headed up Palomares, things got worse, 3 flats on the ride up! Fortunately, that was the number of tubes I had with me, having stopped at a bike shop earlier that week to stock up. Not wanting to push things with the cycling gods, who were for some reason not on my side today, I decided to head back through castro valley and back home. A plan that was going fine until......
You guessed it another flat! Bugger! Out with the patch kit. Managed to get things patched up and finish back to the san leandro area.
Hope the group had a good ride, maybe next time, I'll have better luck, today was just not my day.
(ps: swung by robinson wheel works on the way home to pick up more tubes, and to add salt to my wounds, they were closed today for a trade show. Hows that for a Finish?? )

fc_ sorry to hear of your misfortunes. You must live near me in SL. Maybe we can get together for a ride sometime? :D
Glen set off on a ridiculous pace and I just barely managed to stay with the group. That last section was more difficult than all the climbs.
Alain, what happened to you guys??? You dialed it to 400 watts and droped the hamer on us and disappeared.
Bostic said it best. We were trying to keep up with Glen who set a quick pace. That last stretch really tired me out.
I couldn't keep up with Glenn if my life depended on it. :D But LOS and sweetnsour and I had a lovely return ride
Great ride, everyone !
Really sorry we missed you, Ron. :(
And Sean, sorry about all the grief you had this morning. Some other time, hopefully.
