Foo - Offical v3 testing thread.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Joe, to get your pic on your profile, where do you specify this? I've gone to UserCp then added my url to my picture, but it doesn't display. Do I need to upload it to this site first?

Hmmm... images in signatures doesn't seem to work.
Trying a signature, or not.

Hmm...I can't get links within posts to work.
One minor quibble with the format: The poster info at the left seems less 'organic' to me. For one thing, the field titles are in bold while the user's name, etc. is presented in a normal style. Was it not reversed in the old version? The individual fields themselves are revealed in stark white boxes and remind me of an online credit application.
If this new style is the way it shall be then so be it, but I wonder if anyone else felt the same.

Was just thinking the same thing....
The info is much harder to interpret for me, perhaps because of the white boxes and bold titles. To my eye, it doesn't really need titles for username, title and status. Avatar above username is unnatural to the eye, too.
Other than that, looks great! I love the new features to make posting formatted responses easier.

Images in signatures now work. However, we need to have some type of rule about the size of the image or signature length in whole.
How does this sound:
1: Up to 5 lines of text with no images.
or
2: One image, no higher then 70 pixels in height, and 500 pixels wide.
I know the long-established USENET guideline says the acceptable sig limit is 4 lines of 70 characters. Of course the 70 char limit was established because most terminals had 80 char widths and thus to leave room for quoting mechanisms, there needed to be some offset padding. Of course I personally believe sigs should be trimmed when replying but at anyrate that whole point is moot for web forums. I still think that roundabouts 5 lines max is a good idea. I don't know about images in sigs but I'd imagine the unofficial yet widely accepted 48 pixel high large icon standard might be a good idea.

... Trying to figure out how to add an image to my signature... When I tried it, it added it as a link. I'm posting it here to try to use it's properties for the signature. Hope it works.

O.K., can anyone help me get a picture in my signature? When I use (picture location), it just shows up as a link....
Thanks!

Sounds good. I'd recommend some rules about content if it gets out of control. This is a very mature group here but on other forums the content easily gets... questionable.
Thanks for your work on this board. I used to run a phpBB board for my wife's crafting group and I know how much trouble these things can be. I also know how brutal the users can be when you have to go down for maintenance ;)

Another little thing: The blue/gray bar with 'Return to Top' and page numbers features some text that is too dark. A bit hard on the eyes (at least mine).
Again, a minor quibble. Overall the format is very cool. :)

A few, I dont have copies of thoes, but i'll get them up soon.
I have a whole bunch. If you decide to add some new ones to the forums, I'll be happy to help you out.
Maybe this should be in suggestions, but I would love to see musical notes, a little guy mooning the audience, and a dancing guy....

Thanks dude! And I can download this on my computer and use them on the forums anytime?
Koff
I just reviewed the policy of the site I go them from. It basically says that I did an illegal thing by copying them. It's up to you if you want to use them for personal or forum use. I can delete my posts if you want.
Dang, you had to tell us AFTER you downloaded all those tempting emoticons?
I'll check around the internet for free ones they're giving away. I don't want Joe's site known as one where we deliberately break laws... ;) Thanks anyway. :(
Koffee
I never thought about it until now. The idea of checking the policy of the site struck me after I have posted them, sorry :( . However I have a thing to add. Some of their emotions are just like ones we have here, so what does that mean? They have stalled them or got them from a free source? It seems like most forums use the same emotions…
Well, let's check around the internet on free sites and see. We should be able to get some really good emoticons we can use here.
