Your street directory or back pages in the local directory should have maps with bike paths marked. Also, nearby cycling groups might have compiled their own maps that are available. BV here in Melbourne post out free maps with bike paths and lanes highlighted so there may be something similar where you live.

Well they are usually made of asphalt and concrete, and they probably run right in front of your house. They are called roads and they will go just about anywhere that you want to go.

Some roads are more enjoyable to ride on than others. Personally, I plan my routes to avoid high speed suburban arterials. Cycling should be enjoyable not death defying.
