Mountain Biking - help me turn my bike into a poser ride...happy raiyn??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well it's true man, as I was reading the thread I kept thinking "why does he want all this stuff just for looks?".
You know what makes your bike look cool? Mud, dirt, blood, anything to says you hit the trail hard. Having skill to navigate tight stuff and balls to attempt crazy ***** is what makes you look cool.
So I'll stick with my hardtail with no bells or whistles :D who needs all that stuff. (yes I know their IS uses for it, but not for what I'm doing)
Peace
Step #1 Get the dough.
Step #2 Go to the LBS
Step #3 Ask for most expensive and exotic DH rig.
Step #4 Buy it!
Step #5 Ride around the block with 3 inch tires in a granny gear
Step #6 Make sure to keep us in touch with your progress
*WARNING* Additional steps may be required, depending on your location and amount of brain females of your area have.

Much better as it's much truer to what you actually are trying to do.
My thoughts are still the same as they are in the thread below. In my opinion the best addition you can make to a bike is scuffs and scratches. It's great having a bike that people know that you ride and that you don't have it just for the yuppie look.
The mud is cool too, however it only lasts so long, scratches are forever!
I love the scratches on my bike, each and every one has a story behind it. However, the new bike feeling is pretty cool too. Hopefully I'll be on my new hardtail sometime this week. Can't wait to create some new stories on it! :D

Well, he's right. Put stuff on that will make the bike perform better. If it looks good, great. If not, it still works better than what you replaced or didn't have before. It's like putting a muffler tip on a Civic. It's a good car, but the tip don't do jack.

Man, I don't get it, he asked to help you make his bike look cool, not why he SHOULDN'T. Let the guy do what he wants,if you think scratches and blood and mud looks cool tell him, but don't rip him down for wanting other cools stuff on it to. If it will make him feel better having a cooler looking bike in his eyes, so be it. Maybe if he likes the way it looks he'll ride it more, and get those scratches and stories behind the bike as well.
Good luck with your quest my friend. And hopefully with the new cool looking parts you find dome good riding along the way too!!

thanks slcpunk21, its not that im trying to get stuff that looks good just because it looks good, I am also getting it for performance. Its like making a car into a street racing car. Its both to increase performance and make it a better car and also make it look awesome. This wasnt just to make it look cool and have no use for whatever i put on. and the questions I was asking was about stuff I was unfamiliar with and I wanted to know what it did and how it worked... no hard feelings though

LOl, I see a person driving one of the stupid cars that are imitations of fast and furious, and I immediately know I have a jackass on my hands.

Hey, Boxxers look cool and they're good. But it depends on what frame you get... Some dual suspension frames look good, some don't. I would just stick with my hardtail.

Not necessarily. The street racing and such car modifications were present long before the movie came out. If anybody is imitating it is the movie director or who ever came up with the idea….. ;)

Do you have disc brakes? If so, upgrade to 8" rotors!

Either way, I don't take no stock in street racers, to put it as Huck Finn would.

8" rotors??? hmmmmmmm. will they fit on my bike? I just have regular 6" ones. all I have to do is buy new rotors or is there more to it? also besides looking cool does it have any increased performance for stopping(comparing to 6")

larger rotors will dissipate heat more effectivly=more long term stopping power, they also offer more leverage, for improved quick stopping power... but i doubt you'll notice much difference on XC, but i'm not sure what you ride

You'll also need different adapters to move the caliper away from the mount due to the increased dimeter of the rotor.
I'm considering this option, Jenson USA has a rotor and adapter, cost is about $50-55 per wheel!

i have been looking around at pricepoint. I saw this http://pricepoint.com/product1105.html .... now i wasnt planning on getting a stem but it looks like an exeptional deal. Can somene explain what it means by kneesaver design and also besides weight what makes a stem worth 80 dollars

The Knee saver only means that the clamping hardward (bolts) are NOT exposed and are recessed or off to the side. That way, you don't hit your knees on any sharp edges.

but what makes the stem 80 dollars? besides the knee saver what makes it any better than the stem that came on my bike
Before you get that stem make sure that it is the right size. It is only available in 135 x 10.
Strength, angles, quality, a lot of things factor into price. Materials too.
Ride XC on a DH bike, super poserdom.
