Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - The Bourne Century +

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I want to be outside riding my bike badly today, but the temps and roads are not going to let it happen.
So --- I am creating my own century on roller on this cold and crappy Sunday. It will be called "The Bourne Century +" I will ride over 100 miles by watch the three Bourne movies. It should be around 110 miles by the time I am done.
The first movie is over "The Bourne Identity"

2 movies to go and I will post after each. I feel great and just under 40 miles of wonderful rollers.
Fun target - I'd imagine it may go something like this
mile 1 to 40 = who am I?
mile 41 to 80 = why am I here?
mile 81 to 110 = I need to finish this.

Good Idea.
When you are done with that you can do the Lord of the Rings Double century.
Great Idea, but I can't stand the trainer for more than 30 mins, but have done it for an hr in the past. Are the rollers better at in door training as far as keeping ones mind more occupied? Maybe it's the possibility of falling off that keeps you paying more attention. I would shift to rollers if it reduced the boring factor.

Or The Stand Double Century.. ..Use that as preparation for the Harry Potter Cross Country Tour.
I liked the third one best, which should be the motivation you need to finish. Great idea!!
My advice is move south. You won't regret it.

I am done with #2 "The Bourne Supremecy" and only have a little bit left to ride to make the 100, so it will be definitely more than a century.
Still feeling good and I ate a small wrap and a few chips before riding for the second movie. I am on water bottle # 4 and still sweating a lot.

Rollers take more attention, but you still get a sore butt. I have never been on a trainer, but unless I spend a lot of money on a trainer that will let me ride hills and watch the DVD to follow it and track everything, I will stay with my $50.00 rollers from craigslist.

I could never get into Lord of the Rings, and I have tried many times.
I could do the star wars again, and maybe a Harry Potter, but I am really hoping for some warmer weather to clear the streets so I can ride outside.

We will move south in 3 to 5 years after our daughters are out of high school and possibly college. Wife will be done with RN and should be able to allow us to relocate anywhere in the country.

Not to mention the 6 part Star Wars Triple ;)
I am truly inspired! Thank you Flip.
That's a great idea. My daughter has the first few seasons of "24" on DVD...maybe I'll see how far I can get...

I did a lot of trainer miles watching 24. It's the perfect show for that sort of thing.

OK, I finished the last one and ended up with 115 miles with the time of the movies and some of the extras I watched.
Don't feel too bad actually. The miles were not to bad and I only had breaks between movies, except the last movie, I paused the movie to do some stretching, because it felt like my legs were getting a little bit tight.
I stretched for about 20 minutes after the last movie, at a little supper and then took a good shower and I feel human again.
Will I do this again? Not until next winter, unless we have a lot more snow and crappy weather.

We should have 24 and my wife got South Park also. I am not much of a TV person after finding exercise again in my life, so I would have to start with the first season of pretty much anything to have a clue about the show.

Do you ride rollers or a trainer?
Find something you want to watch and start slow. My first roller ride was about 15 minutes of being scared to death that I was going to crash. Now, I think I could do a lot more than the 115 miles I did today. If I could just get rid of the last 40 pounds of fat on my body.

Then there's The Godfather double century, Wagner's Ring cycle (pun!), etc..
114 in your living room?! Awesome!

That was a nice link and definitely not safe for work, but still funny.

Well, actually it is in my basement that I am in the middle of a home improvement project, so it isn't the greatest place to work out, but still better than being outside with -30 wind chills.

Ah Tommy, there are only three real Star Wars movies. Those three movies that were called Star Wars that were released in 1999, 2002, and 2005 are pure crap.

But the technology was much better by the end, that the effects are so much better. I like them all for what they are and what they were at the time. The Bourne movies were much better for me and my riding time.

I thought 6 hours was enough seat time, I don't think I could do 24 hours of seat time.

Find a way to play it at four times the original speed. :D

I hope my next century is outside in the great Iowa fresh air and not in my basement on a set of roller watching a movie.

Just an update after 24 hours. No sore muscles or other pains. I did a 50 minute elliptical workout at 5:00 a.m. this morning after yesterdays 115 mile of biking. Really not bad. Tomorrow is a 5k run and lifting weights and then I will try a 40 mile ride, again on the rollers.
Wagner's Ring cycle....
Gasp! That's nearly 20 hours if you use the Solti/VPO set. Gotterdammerung indeed!

Do it 10 days straight and you too could qualify for RAAM ;)

Throw in Parisfal, Die Meistersinger, The Flying Dutchman, Tannhauser, and Lohengrin, and you could qualify for RAAM. Or Bayreuth.
Neil B., who like Rossini, thinks Wagner has wonderful moments but terrible quarter-hours.

I would love to ride across the U.S., but not at a race pace. But, I would also have to win the lottery first to be able to afford it.
Edit: I don't play the lottery, so I don't think it will happen. Maybe I should start playing the lottery.
