A fun ride as long as you know what to expect (lots of cyclists, most relatively inexperienced at riding in crowds).

Enjoy!

I am riding in it too. I am not looking forward to the crazy crowd because I am running the 5k afterwards. Nevertheless, it should be fun.

I love this ride - I've gone on it 4 times in the last 6 years - and I'm glad to see others are going, even though it's "only" 20 miles and there are a lot of newbies. Good for honing your defensive riding skills!
Scoot - what time do you get there?

Register?

HAHAHA.... right.... :D I've done this for 3 years now (or something like that... nothing memorable, obviously), and I have yet to register for this ride.

5:45 is CRAZY early to be in LA for me - plus it's only 20 miles, so I'll pass. I'm hoping that they give it a more humane start time some day so I can do it.

I did the ride last year. It was fun, I rode it on my mountain bike. At only 22 miles, it was a great short ride. The best thing was being able to ride in the streets of LA without worrying about cars, buses, trucks, etc! The only thing to worry about are the 15K other bicycles! :D

I'm not sure if I want to do this again... still debating. I'll make my decision on Feb 25th. :p

If you want a similar ride, but longer distance and later start time, I recommend the City of Angels Fun ride.

Enjoyable ride, there's a 44 mile more challenging option and it has police escort with rolling traffic stop. It covers some of the same area as the LA Bike Tour but goes up through Hollywood and around Griffith Park.

It's on May 4th this year.

After thinking about it I will likely pass this ride up. I mean c'mon 5:45am, lots of newbie crowds, and I have to may $45 ! My original though was that this might be a fun ride for my running friends, but I rather organize a bike ride for them myself, and go out to eat afterwards for less than half the cost of the "tour."

Hopefully, I'll get to ride with You guys at some other up coming event :)

Is this the same ride that used to coincide with the Expo? Did they discontinue that?

And I don't know where the money goes - it's not a charity ride.

No major Expo that I remember, but they had a few booths (some apparel, a bike shop and a tool company), a big raffle and lunch. Last year's lunch was okay, the year before it was catered by Wood Ranch Grill and was awesome.

I've also done it a couple times. My only advice is change out your pedals to flats instead of clip ins. I had to stop and start eleven billion times on that ride.

I've experienced cyclist traffic far better in Beijing. The Bike-A-Thon cycling traffic makes Beijing's cycling traffic look like an outdoor shopping mall during a rainstorm: empty. By comparison, of course.

Now we're talking about two different rides.... are you referring to the one in the marathon, or the City of Angels ride?
