I just registered me and my best friend for 12,000 feet of climbing* in the hot Caleveras sun...
Anyone else doing this???

I am not looking forward to any climb called "Jesus Maria". I think I've done it by car once or twice heading up to%

I did this one last year. It was a tough climb in the heat. There is a lot of climbing before Jesus Maria and its important to keep your nutrition and hydration up. I did the Sierra Century as a prep for the Death Ride last year. I'm planning on doing it again this year as well as the Death Ride. Although I have to say the post meal ride sucked. Hopefully they do something better this year.

That one is on my list to do someday! Unfortunately, we'll be camping in Markleeville that weekend - pre-riding the roads for the Death Ride.

It really should be renamed to "The Pot Hole Century". Some of those roads are so bad. Your MTB skills really come into play. However, it is a good well organized, well supported ride. It is a challenge.

Thanks for reminding me.

For some odd reason this post didn't edit correctly and about half of the message got chopped off. I can't remember what I wrote... Oh well.

I remember the * was referring to 12,000 feet of climbing would equate to a 2% uphill grade average for the whole shebang, right?

They are moving the rest stop at Jesus Maria I hear. And as for the potholes, I ride the Delta primarily (anyone familiar with V^o^r^d^e^n_ R^o^a^d^?). I don't know what smooth roads are like. This ride will be a "normal" ride for me.

We did the half last year on the Tandem - the roads were terrible - especially on some of those narrow descents - not alot of fun on a tandem where your stoker is getting bucked around like they are bull riding. I did the Sierra for years before the guy got himself killed and resulted in it having to move. We talked about doing it this year on singles - but haven't committed yet. It simply isn't quite as fun anymore.
