I got mine yesterday. You can get a long enough steerer for the R20. May not be the ultimate technical suspension but gives you v-brakes, and sized for a normal BMX wheel. Cheap too. Seller seems to have a stock of them so don't go bidding the price up too much!

I have my second Raleigh Twenty totally disassembled in the basement. A few questions.... What length BMX fork will fit the Twenty? (I measured the OEM fork tube at 230 mm.) Use threaded or non-threaded steerer tube? New headset required... both top and bottom? Will the straight fork allow enough tire clearance with the frame / toes? Will the old fender still fit? Will any fender fit? Other considerations?

On my first Twenty, in addition to complete cleaning, touch-up paint and lubrication, I switched to Tektro MTB brake levers, SA twist grip shifter, a Mongoose alloy front wheel and new tires. My wife has "adopted" the bike so I had to get another. Here are pics of my first Twenty.... Click on thumbnail for larger picture.

I have been a Raleigh fan since I bought my first and long time only good bike in 1973, a Raleigh Grand Prix, but I would not have even known about the Twenty if it were not for Sheldon Brown's website and his enthusiasm. The picture of Sheldon's Red Rocket on the earlier thread answered a number of my questions on fork fit. Sheldon's legacy lives on.....

+1 My Twenty is a tribute to Sheldon. I feel a new paint job with his name on it coming on.

How about naming all modified Raleigh Twentys, the "Sheldon Brown" look.

This had to be done. Sheldon downtube decal Raleigh style. If you do get a respray there's artwork here for the vinyl cutters...

Thanks, that's what I had in mind too... :) but what is PDF scalable vector version? I had a look at it in a gif viewer but it doesn't scale without pixelation. Am I doing sth wrong?

I have had a respray in mind for quite some time now. The green while nice is peeling due to wrong undercoat. I'll probably be going with metallic orange, with all black componentry for contrast.

Ah I see. You linked to a gif instead of pdf, I changed it manually and got the right file...

My original bike seems darty...good maneuvaribility, but sketchy feeling on fast downhills. Definitely not a hands off machine. Friction in upper headset bushing could be a factor. But that original fork has so much offset that I wonder if there is any trail at all! ?

What is interest level in the non-folder twentys, and how common are they? (Mine is non-folder.)

Thanks.

The Wasp is a non folder and I've retained the nylon bush and QR for the head stem, that with a long goose neck means I can ride no hands, no problem!! As for fast pace riding...how's flat out downhill, fully loaded back and front with panniers and very stable or motor pacing behind a truck at ridiculous speeds and still stable......
After many years of riding full sized roadies it felt a bit different to ride the R20, but you quickly adjust to it's quirky responses and it doesn't take long before you're cornering at breakneck speeds ;)

Oh yeah, those suspension forks might look good, but,

1: They're cheap and heavy
2: $20 "BUY IT NOW" will cost me $55US postage to send to Australia....not worth it, IMHO.
