Just wanted to share with you my latest creation. It took me a long time to build it up, but I finally got around to putting together what I wanted in a loaded touring/all season commuting bike, with both a dynohub and a speedhub. Thoughts are appreciated.

Very sweet ride, lots of quality stuff. Were you able to build the wheels yourself?

The only concern I'd have is the Brooks due to all the rain I hear Portland gets. I hear that's not the best for the leather.

Can i ask what kind of dropouts are those? Paragon sliders?

It's been a long while since I've built wheels and I'm pretty short on time, so I had them built up by Clever Cycles (great local shop).

It has both a leather saddle and bar tape. The proofide definitely has its work cut out for it :)

The saddle mainly stays dry as either I'm sitting on it, or the bike is parked indoors. The bar tape remains to be seen, but I've heard good things. After mainly using spongy cork tape, wrapping it was like wrapping a dress belt around the bars -- took a lot more force than I'm used to. That said, it's supposed to be about the most durable (and surely the most expensive) stuff out there.

Nope, it's either at home, at work (indoors), or being ridden. I have a set of Pitlocks on it, but I'm not excited about the idea of parking it outdoors (yet).

The dropouts are the stock sliding dropouts that came with the 2005-2007 Kona Sutra frames. I think they're gone this year, but they're perfect for my needs. I found an 2006 NOS frame from Craig at Cove Bikes in Vancouver, BC.

I deliberated about getting a locally made custom frame, but in the end it was hard to beat the price (USD $400) and the lack of lead time. Maybe next time..
