The original, not the two sequels (which were also damn good films tho).

It's pretty good. That reminds me, I need to watch some more 80's movies.

I was still in my teens when that movie came out. I remember I had a crush on Lea Thomson, but other than that the movie was good but not the best film ever made.

I could not agree more.
I saw it when I was about ten, liked it, forgot about it. Then my freshman year of college, I wanted to watch it again, so I rented it. I was blown away. So fantastic.
While in truth it isn't at the very top of my list, it's in the top ten for sure.

Not at the top of mine either, but definitely top 5 :D
nope. not even close. i mean, have you seen Rashomon or Throne of Blood? Schindler's List? Battleship Potempkin? Bridge On The River Kwai? City Lights?
does have some of the best soundbites/quotes/whatever, though.
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too. Lorraine, if you ever have a kid that acts that way I'll disown you.
The Godfather #1 and 2. "leave the gun, take the canoli".
That movie was a lot of fun and I like it a lot. But... even if we are ignoring the 'classics' it's not on my greatest hits list.
I think it has as much to do with you as the movie. 3 of my favorites came from 1977
when I badly need diversion... Apocalypse Now, The Blues Brothers, and the first Muppet Movie.
They all seem dated now, just as Back to the Future is beginning to look dated. Great for their time, but tide and time wait for no man...

Good movie and we just watched all of them recently, but "The Gladiator" with Russell Crowe makes my top movie so far. I cried at the end, man what a movie.

In the same time-traveling, fun movie category, I present for your consideration Encino Man and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

A big +1 for you :D
I love that film, and the sequel is every bit as good.

Back to the Future is the best damned film ever made.
I travelled back in time once. I hopped in my car and drove to Adelaide.:p
Braveheart FTW
please, please tell me you're kidding.
Braveheart is awful. corny "acting," a near-complete disconnect from historical fact, and just general all-round awfulness. heck, The Patriot was a better movie.
Back to the Future is good, but I'm gonna have to give The Incredibles the win.
Fletch, Animal House, Caddyshack are all far superior to Back to the Future.
I will have a steak sandwich, a Bloody Mary and another steak sandwich and it put in on Mr. Underhill's tab.

Best enjoyed after lighting one up :) and it was 1980.
I had to check, but I knew it was after Animal House and my college days.

Oh come on! The Incredibles??!1?!!?11?!
Jesus wept. I mean, I know it comes down to personal preference, but THE INCREDIBLES?
Besides, this is supposed to be a thread discussing how awesome Back the The Future is, not for listing your favourite movies ;)

Back to the Future is definitely a great movie. Not my number 1 though. It’s not even my number 1 Spielberg movie. I’d put Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, and Indiana Jones 1 and 3 ahead of it in my list.

I love the BTTF trilogy. Fantastic set.
Don't think Spielberg had anything to do with MIB. Great movie tho.

'Back To The Future' was good but I would have to vote for 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' as a better movie, and 'Silent Running' as another great one.
It (TDTESS) is very dated with regard to the 'Special Effects' (FX), but I think the message is just as important and viable today as it was when the movie was released back in 1951.
'Silent Running' also makes one think a bit, and hearing Joan Baez sing 'Rejoice In The Sun' still gives me goosebumps.
I think both movies are truly profound, and I can't think of any other movies that I would say that about.

They don't call it 'Down Under' for nothing.
Speaking of Down Under, i can think of three Austrailian movies that were better.
1. The Proposistion
2. Romper Stomper
3. Mad Max
And countless others not made in Austrailia.
Heck - Crocodile Dundee was a better movie!
You forgot 'Breaker Morant'

You forgot 'Breaker Morant'
Your right! That was an awsome movie.
Lets also add The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to my list of Aussi movies that were better than BTTF. The guy who was the lead in The Proposistion was in this gem too.
ok, 'Priscilla' was just wrong... lol.
heh, actually a rather entertaining movie..

Absolutley. Matt Stone and Trey Parker stole that ping pong ball bit that's in their South Park Movie, Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

3. Mad Max
What about Road Warrior? Better than Mad Max in my opinion.

Australian movies are cr@p. I mean, they're just the worst ***** ever to appear on a cinema screen anywhere. Farking terrible.
I say this as an Australian, they're god awful abominations that should never see the light of day.
If I want to see something different to the usual Hollywood films, I'll watch a good British flick. Billy Elliot was an excellent film, and I love Hot Fuzz (not 100% certain that was british-made tho).
