A friend of mine is drafting a letter to the local radio stations in the area, including the Clear Channel owned stations. He is making a clear warning about how the broadcasts from the Raleigh station is unacceptable. He is also explaining how cyclists in the area are organized and prepared to demonstrate or boycott the station if such a broadcast would originate from our area.
The Clear Channel web site lists the address and station manager's name in format searchable by zip codes. If anyone is interested, I will post a copy of the letter when I get it.

here's a thread discussing Clear Channel's situation. It's not their first venture into this arena concerning bicyclists - same sort of attack but different cities.

Since very similar anti-cycling suggestions have been made by DJs on FIVE different Clear Channel stations, this constitutes a statistically significant pattern and leads me to suspect either the motives or the competence of Clear Channel's upper management. I am not one to jump on conspiracy theory bandwagons, but this time I seriously wonder whether CC is actually encouraging this cr@p to boost ratings. If this allegation is true, it speaks very poorly of CC and the listening public in general.

I'd say that's more than likely to be the reason. Cyclists aren't the first group to be targetted like this, and I doubt we'll be the last. Unfortunately, I think all the letters directly to the station from enraged cyclists are more likely to encourage them than scare them. Personally I think targetting the sponsors would be a better option.

If you listen to this interview with Jim Donahue of Essential Information you will find Clear Channels sins go much deeper than the cycling incidents so writing them will not do anything so yes sponsors are the ones to go after and of course the FCC and I have already stopped listening to any Clear Channel Stations in our area
Here is a link to the show Donahue was on if you want to just listen to his interview it is about 17 minutes into the show you can fast forward to it.

John, what is the probability (scientifically speaking) of five separate Clear Channel stations using this same tactic to boost ratings without the collusion of upper management?

Considering that I have never heard of this happening except on a Clear Channel station and that the five incidents span the U.S. over a period of a little over two years, I am pretty suspicious of the whole affair. I would love to be able to find enough evidence to get the FCC to revoke CC's licenses over abuse of the PUBLIC's airwaves.

I really can't imagine 100.7 in Iowa City pulling this stunt. Even with the Bob and Tom show on the mornings. I.C. has to many cyclists and crazy students just looking for something to protest about.
Wmt in Cedar Rapids is way to laid back to do it. However I think the letter is a great Idea. (I would include a list of their advertisers as likely picket spots. :D )
