I was thinking of riding my bike from SoCal, Irvine, to BayArea (Pleasanton) either during Spring or Summer break. Anyone done this, or can recommend good scenic route. I was thinking about 4 days will be enough to get there?

Prevailing winds run north to south.
Pleasanton to Irvine is what, 400 miles? And that's if you go on the highway. It's more if you take back roads.

Ah, well I guess I have to deal with winds if I do it. In other direction logistics don't really work out. It's about 500 miles, actually.

Team Bearclaw might have a few, good, route offerings:

Well i bet its between 460 and 470. Thats taking the PCH. I assume thats the route you would want to take? YOu could always man up and take the 33 I suppose..

PCH is the way to go. Figure on at least 5 days. If you can get your hands on a CALTRANS bikecentennial bike route book (no longer published), it'll show you the route north. It's a great ride. :)
