Bicycle Mechanics - SRAM rival fd

I just installed a new rival groupset and everything is shifting good without chain rub etc., but the FD when shifting from the big ring (position 3 of 3) to the small ring jumps all the way back to position 1 skipping the little ring trim position 2? Is this normal, it is as if the tension is too high, but if I back the tension off at all then i get chain rub. I think everything else is adjusted properly and it up shifts (going from position 1 to 3) properly with the trim on small ring. Is this normal for sram?

Only sram red shifters have a trim adjustment in the shifter, Rival has just 2 positions. It does feel like it has a trim but it doesnt

All FD brifters with trim I've seen do this (Sora, Ultegra). There are actually 4 positions, not 3: low, low+trim, high-trim, high. Going from low, first click gives low+trim, second gives high. Going from high, first click gives high-trim, second gives low. You can't land on high-trim going up, and you can't land on low+trim going down.

Sounds normal to me. AFAIK with SRAM Rival/Force, a partial shift from small ring gets you the small trimmed position (for the last couple small cogs). A full shift from the small ring gets you the big ring (which has no trim for all cogs). Any shift off the big ring moves the cage full left back to the untrimmed position on the small ring.

Don't think this is correct. From my SRAM Rival/Force Brifter manual:

The left shifter offers a trim position for the front derailleur to allow the chain running smootly in the small chainring in extreme positions. (Shift position 1 and 2 is for the small chainring. Shift position 3 is for the large chainring.)

I believe Red provides for trimming on the big chainring in addition, at least that's what I've heard.

ok, so it is not suppose to land on the trim position 2 coming from position 3. That makes sense and in viewing the SRAM video on their site under service it looks like their FD moves from position 3 to position 1 as well. Thanks everyone.
