peter, I understand what you're saying. By the way, it sounds like you're speccing out a fantastic machine! You get it put together, I'm 101% sure that my fellow subforum members would absolutely love to drool over its pictures, so post them here. :DA comment: everyone is making this a "political" issue when the issue should be about value. I have gone through numerous low to mid-line bikes and found that you get what you pay for when it comes to durability and riding enjoyment. A $300 bike is good for a season or so, whereas an $800 bike is nicer to ride and will last a few seasons with maintenance. I have decided to buy my last bicycle and I spending the money to commission the most durable cycle I can: a full rigid titanium mtn bike with a Rohloff transmission and Phil Woods hubs and BB. it will cost me dearly but I am sick of buying a new bike every couple of years. I think it will pay for itself over time compared to buying any other machine.
Just sayin'
p.s.: I normally run high pressure slicks and my mountain bike passes most road bikes I see on the roads and cycle trails.

People are a bit sensitive here. I agree with the substance of what peloton wrote even if the delivery was lacking.

People who are concerned about being near or over the weight limit of bicycle parts should not be buying them in the first place.
Perhaps, if these overweight people have the money, they should first invest in coaching, or educating themselves about their nutrition, training, & other lifestyle regimen.
1) Thinking of joining in on that next CF, Ti, Unobtanium rage on your group rides? Get a coach/nutritionist/dietitian instead.
Cycling is a sport, not a hobby. Be sensible.
I've pulled the "substance" of the original message out from the entire rant so you can see what you're agreeing with.
Oh yeah, I can totally see where it's just people being overly sensitive...

"Pelotonracer, you are an arrogant elitist who feels insecure about recreational cyclists using the same equipment as you."
.
How about this reply:
Bite me. I am 6 and a half feet tall and weigh in at 250- I can bike fast, swing a hammer all day, walk twenty miles on flats or 15 carrying a pack climbing a mountain... sure I could lose 20 lbs and I work towards it, but I effing love my low-spoke count, partial carbon-fram Cannondale CAAD8, it rocks my world and I love blowing by 130lb spandex clad bikers like they are standing still, keeping up with traffic or taking right turns at 20MPH. If I bust a wheel- I will buy another. I don't bike as sport, I bike because I LOVE TO BIKE.... sure I suck wind on hills, but WTF? Who do I have to prove anything too? Does my owning a nice bike offend you? Then stay home or bike at night, because I am not staying home to please you.

+1 but not just lacking, severly lacking. Some people just come across wrong. Im not 100% sure thats how he wanted it to sound (although it did). Either way me and my 216 pound self will continue to ride my Trek 2200 and not give a rats *** what anyone thinks. Its not the fancyiest, most high dollar bike made, but its mine and I love it!
1. No, I don't ever plan/want to be a racer
2. I have never coddled a inanimate object
3. Where would I get all of my useful information?
I cycle for fun (hobby), not sport. Sport means you have to work hard at it and practice.

sorry couldnt help it... My troll bait is showing:D
It wasn't like the OP was a troll. He was irritating, but I believe his post to be sincere. He posted it over in the roadie forum, too, so it wasn't like he was baiting Clydes.
But I do think this subject has been covered ad nauseum...

He didn't get much love in either forum.
Hey, we've all posted with our heads up our butt from time to time....including yours truly. Never ascribe to malice what can more easily be attributed to simple mistake or moments of idiocy. ;) (And we ALL have them ;) )
