Road Cycling - OLN's coverage over?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

With the exception of SportsZone, is OLN's cycling coverage over? They don't seem to be making big deal out of the World Championships. I know the season's drawing to a close, so can I expect the OLN channel to receive little use until the Spring?

Yea I feel it is over... Last year wasnt as good as previous year... This year was sad. Poor coverage of spring classics, OK on Giro. Good on TDF (but not as good as last year)... Velta...What was that? No coverage after 3PM viewing? What, was I suppose to take 3 weeks off from work to watch it? And then on Thursday when I expect to see highlites, they play reruns of the interview with Lance.... ARGH!
Be happy with what you get. With the exception of the TdF all the cycling coverage you guys see is relpaced here with Bowflex ads or Caribbean Workout.
I was in Oregon last month and almost wet myself when I saw Vuelta coverage one morning. Wouldn't you know it, the other 5 days I was there were in towns without OLN on the hotel's cable package  I *almost* bought a DirectTV dish to bring back to Canada but I really didn't need the hassle at the border...
The world's are likely being covered by a Canadian network and there's a chance OLN couldn't get the licence to rebroadcast.

Well call me greedy, but I want Vuelta coverage in the evenings, just like TDF. Do we really need to see so much of the bull on OLN?
I hope everyone wrote and told OLN of their displeasure. I did. Every day.

I agree I was a little upset with the no usual afternoon showings of the Vuelta. TDF coverage was nice I guess I got spoiled. I am tired of watching Bull riding every afternoon. I need to see some cycling.

OLN paid lots of money to cover rodeo after some talking head said it was going to be the next big thing in sports. Rodeo does have a bigger following then cycling, and their sponsers have more money to spend on advertising. Justin Boots' marketing budget is about as big as DalimerChrysler's.
Yeah, I think it's over for the season. Now I can watch bowling on ESPN 2!

When did it start?
Seriously, cycling just isn't popular in the States. There are obviously more people that would prefer to watch a taped version of "Shotgun Journal" than watch le Tour live on the weekends. Sad, but true. :(

Perhaps we should start carrying shotguns on our bikes while we are cycling... It may give us more respect on the roads too ;)

I can see it now - "Introducing Shotgun Cycling Journal. In this week's addition, find out what pedaling technique will allow you to get the draw on that pickup truck that just pelted you with a beer bottle. Also, reloading ammunition for a 12-guage make simple."
:D
Over the summer, I had my Tivo set up to record all shows listed by OLN as "Bicycle racing", I guess for Tivo it's called a 'season manager' (?)
Well, just this weekend I got a message on the screen that the season manager was ending because there were no further bicycle racing shows on OLN...
I'm hoping for some replays later in the year, similar to the Lance Around the Clock marathon, but I'm not holding my breath...

NO!!!!!
Check out Thursday nights Sportszone. The World's will be on that show.
Check their website...they are showing, for example, the TdF Route Announcement.

I'm so sick of flicking to that channel and seeing Rednecks killing Animals and fishing. I thought all that crap used to be on TNN, now TNN is spike lee channel or something.
Also the friggen bull ridings got to go, I can't believe more people enjoy bullriding than outdoor programs(adventure, bicycling, rock climbing, canoe/kayak, etc.)
I've just about all but written off OLN, like what happend to the Vuelta?? They had it on last year and it was a good race, this year Heras of Postal won!!! That should have been big news at least it's an american sponsored team!

Yeah, no Paris-Tours, no Tour of Lombardy, no Worlds. Then again, when the majority of bike racing fans on a board such as this don't care about the above races, why should OLN? It's only about the TDF.

Yeah, but how MUCH of the Worlds? 10 minutes anight? 20?
As for the TdF route, I have that marked, but it's not racing :(
Wow... how rare. Usually we're getting the stinky end of the stick.
We're getting decent daily coverage from CBC here in Canada. The ITT was well done and I'm looking forward to Sunday. Those of you on the border need to hook up the rabbit ears if your cable company doesn't carry CBC.
Coverage of the Vuelta was not bad but you had to use your VCR since there was no evening rerun.
OLN has never given us much in the way of the Classics though we did get Paris-Roubaix this year. USPS doesn't seriously race the Classics and I get the impression that OLN believes w/o LA or at least USPS a large part of the already small US audience for road cycling won't tune in. Though they did do a nice job on the Giro.
It is better than nothing but it does seem less this year than in the past.

Well, I'm prepared to get a sat dish if they have better cycling coverage,I have given up on OLN and get my info from the net or mags.
Anyone know of any good stations (cable or sat)
